Have they looked into or told you why the first op is still painful?

Hi Hun no as I didn't see him about that last time I went it's just recently it's started paining me again

Would it be a good idea to chat to him about that first ? You could ask his secretary to see if he would chat with you as obviously it will concern you when your about to undergo a second op? Cos obviously mobility will be worse with two painful knees. He may say you just strained a muscle or it's common and wears off but maybe it's best to ask before you commit to the second procedure.

The doc doesn't know you had problems so will assume everything went fine? Just a thought xx

But I'm thinking he might not go ahead with my op then and I would never free from pain ????

But thinking sensibly lol .. It might be a infection or scar or something daft , why risk it happening again without having your mind put at rest over the first one !!

He will probably say it's fine anyway and if it isn't shouldn't you tackle that problem first instead of not telling them and potentially get pain in both knees! Thought the op was to help lol xxxx

And! He would fix the first one if indeed anything is needed then be more prepared for the second! Personally I would have that chat xxxx

Don't think I will be able to get to see him now before my op as he's away on holiday

Well let's hope it clears up for you soon then, you could of course ask your gp to have a look in case it's something obvious, what do you think ?

It's where they shave the knee cap and I had a tear of my cartlidge and wore a brace for 6 weeks he knows I need a replacement but he says I'm only 56

I need one too and a hip but I can't have them till I'm older either, just a thought but you still have synovium then in your knee joint, so could it be your RA playing up? Cos RA is often synovial inflammation ? Worth getting doc to look and using your anti inflammatories as prescribed I suppose?

Whats synovium ??? Sorry I'm thick

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to Deejojo

Lol not thick, synovium is the covering inside a joint which tends to get inflamed and chuck out white cells in the joint this causing the typical hot swollen stiff RA joint .

But what I meant was could it be your RA playing up rather than the first op? Worth chatting to go xxx

And you still get RA in your knees even tho the osteo is better?

sylvi profile image
sylvi in reply to allanah

I don't know whether there is RA in my knee now,the other one maybe. The knee was replaced because it was worn out. Six months before they washed it out and i was off for four weeks. I wish i hadn't ever had it done as it had to be redone two years ago.xxxx

I wonder when he will consider me for replacement??? This is a great site thank you everyone why hasn't he said I have ra ??? X

Oh I presumed as you were on the rheumatoid site you had an RA diagnosis? RA is very different in some ways to OA which is not inflammatory but " wear and tear" . RA makes you feel very poorly, like flu, your joints swell, get hot, tends to affect lots of joints in your body and usually is symmetrical . Also you tend to get stiffness in the morning , pain and swelling. So if you have those symptoms then talk to doc about RA. There is a great site on not inflamed arthritis such as OA , search arthritis research care and they will be able to talk to you about OA in particular.

You would know if you have RA the doctor would have to go investigations and blood tests. Sorry I mixed it up, I though you had OA and RA! ! The treatments are different babes!

However I would still chat to the doc about the pain after your op! Xx

Hi Allanah, interested in reading your replies. I have RA diagnosed 2 years ago after 2 years PMR. It has never affected symmetrical joints, afraid I am rather atypical on a lot of things. I am 67 and am being investigated over painful hip and knee. I cannot walk far at the moment.
