How on this earth can I flare having only just had Iv steroids and tripled the oral dose. Ok I broken my foot a week ago but surely RA give me a reprieve please.

hope you feel better soon, i can only recount what happened to me, i had a knee replacement and had a relly bad flare-up whilst in hospital with inflammation markers nearly 500, which was scary, did some research and found out that if yoy have RA and the body undergoes trauma such as a major op or accident it can trigger a so called Cytokine Storm, have copied a link to scholarly papers written on the subject (below) dont know if this it explains it but it did with me, was in a bad way for a few days, worst flare-up ever, for me:

I'm so glad that I haven't had a flare-up after the surgery on my foot, just the normal pain in my hands & wrists. I was prepared for one with extra steroids in the drawer. The extra rest for the first two weeks seemed to help (while doing the passive exercises putting all my joints through the range of movements while lying down with the foot elevated).
