What causes a flare, what happens during a flare and how do you get out of it, how long do they last
Hi Dina, if you haven't found them, NRAS do a brilliant introduction and description of RA on nras.org.uk
Flare is a word describing when your RA gets worse or more active is how I thnk of it. Your joints might get more sore or more red or swollen . You might feel more hot, tired and as though you have flu.
Every flare time is different, mine tend to last a while , wee or two, other people's a day, but the best think is to get help from the rheumatology department.
I got more flares before my RA got a bit more controlled and personally I notice they get worse if I overdo things or get stressed about something. X
I never unberstood a flare either. BUT I do now. It came on all of a suden 4 days ago. Went to doc and started emdril injections. He increased my mthx to 9 pills a week. Waiting for drugs to kick in so I can go back to work. The pain is mostly in my toes. I have a huge ball of swelling on the bottom of my feet at the toe joint making it very difficult to walk. I pray this does not last long but im on my 5th day. Good Luck.
Hi Dina
I agree with Allanah's suggestion that you have a look at the NRAS website to get some answers to your questions. I also think that it may be helpful to look at the video and information on this link nhs.uk/conditions/Rheumatoi...
If you have any questions then why not call the helpline and we will do our best to help. 0800 298 7650
