my son has been diagnosed with RA, since he has been ... - NRAS
my son has been diagnosed with RA, since he has been on salazopyrin his symptoms have improved dramatically .however he is still in agony
Yes, I often got my steroid systemically that is into my bum and it goes round all the body and worked well. Could be worth a chat with the docs to ask about systemic injections if they would be suitable or/and get better pain relief for him. So hard to cope with RA and work xxxxxx
Hello
If it is RA and your son is on SULPHERSALIZINE he will be under a Specialist for His injections and will also be seen by an RA nurse. for His bloods
One thing that may be useful is for him is ask to see the Podiatrist, they will look at the feet and see if an adapted pair of shoes is a good idea, I have several pairs and they really do help. They will be supplied through the hospital and they will be re healed and soled when required. There are many designs to choose.
Give it a try

I'm going to throw out a completely off the wall idea that is working for me - have him try foot strengthening exercises (physiotherapy), and going barefoot more often to build the strength of the many muscles and joints in the feet. Foot baths and massage are also great, and taking the pressure off the feet - i.e. sitting and elevating them where possible - should also help. I have noticed for me that massage therapy and building up the muscles to support the joints seem to help. And going barefoot feels so good - it must be therapeutic!
He should have an
MRI scan to see what exactly is causing the pain. I suffer the same with feet, & MRI showed exactly why. Good Luck, there are no easy answers.
I have seen a physio privately as I do not get much help from hospital for physio/OT. He seems to know a lot about RA and after 5 weeks and a good pair of trainers that he recommended to wear sometimes, I no longer wake up in pain. He also gave me some excises to do like crunching my toes. Had injection into a finger joint in past but it didn't help very much, had one in bottom which worked much better.
My podiatrist has a portable ultrasound machine, which makes it easy for him to see what the problem is. And he has had some custom made insoles for me that are brilliant. With them I can walk for miles. Without them I hobble, and I can't manage more than 10 steps barefoot! But I do agree about exercises as podiatrist set me off on calf stretching exercises that have really helped too. So basically try to get him to go and see a specialist!
