Hi everyone just had a 'flare' and been diagnosed with RA. Am really scared about my future, has anyone been on mtx for more than 10 years?
i have been on 25mc for 10 years and am ok
Only 2 weeks for me lol, I think everything about RA is scary but at least we have these guys here to help us through the difficult times.

Welcome indenisl. I'm so sorry you're feeling that way, but take heart in few of us on here would have been anything but concerned at the beginning. I'm coming up to 6 years on MTX & blipped early days on tablets but now inject & have had good results.
If you feel you need support or just want reassurance, pop on here. You will gather lots of information & maybe conflicting answers as that's the nature of sharing our experiences. We all have different types of meds for different autoimmune diseases not just RA (you may find it referred to as RD as some of us now prefer to call it Rheumatic Disease as that covers all & not just arthritis) & not everything suits everybody but I'm sure you'll always find us a friendly & lot.
I was diagnosed 25 years ago and was on methotrexate for about 18 years before I decided I had enough of not feeling quite with it every weekend and have moved on to lefluomide which I have now been on for about 3 years and feel fab on. It is just a case of trying what the doctors prescribe and seeing how you get on with it

Hi, I was diagnosed 43 years ago, age 6, and was on MTX for over 30 years (age 16-47)before having to stop because of neutropenia (low white cells, increased risk of infection) but, 3 years later, I've recently recommenced MTX and so far, so good. MTX has been the best drug ever for me, good luck with yours!
I have been on Methotraxate for 12 years and have had no after effects except for slight nausea , as long as I take Folic acid the day after taking MTX I don't even get that anymore. This drug has enabled be to carry on working full time and live a normal life, something that before going on it I never thought I would be able to do as was in so much pain. My mum has also been on it for about twenty five years and calls it he 'miracle' drug as she is still able to get out and about at the age of 78 whereas before taking it she was practically house bound.
I have been on methotrexate for a month and having great success. No side effects and hopefully I won't. I'm able to do things I haven't been able to do in a very long time. Hope you have the same results.
Hi and welcome. I am 47 and i've had RA for 21 years and been on mtx for 19 years apart from to get pregnant/be pregnant and 6 months off with low white cells. I get occasional mouth ulcers but that's it. Hope it works well for you. Thing you have to remember with RA is that there are varying degrees of it and we are all different and respond in very different ways to medication. Try to stay positive too as low mood and stress can affect your RA. If you need support also use NRAS. They can send you info and arrange for a volunteer with RA to phone you for a chat. I wish you well. Take care KiKi x x
