A question for all the women.....

I don't know about you but one of the most painful things I have to do twice a day is to put on and take off my bra!!! I would love to hear if any of you have found a way to do this twice a day with as little pain as possible. I have tried wearing ones with no wires but they just push my boobs to the two sides, I'm rather large so it's looks awful.....I have also tried going with out. When I was very bed I didn't care but now that I'm feeling so much better I want to look as good as I can.....I'd be very great ful for your stories and/or suggestions. XX

Thanks Lizzie.....I did try one of those but I still found them hard to work with. I think being big busted is probably my biggest, pardon the pun, problem. I have also tried those that you pull over your head.......what an awful experience.....I struggled getting it on, there was no support in it at all and when I tried to get it off I got so tangled up and it caused so much pain that I had a wee bit of a panic attack......funny now when I look back at it but at the time I was really frightened as I live on my own and really struggled to get the thing off again......I don't wear one when I'm in the house on my own but when I go out I want to look as well as I can.....

Sorry, typos as I have my contacts in lol , in the top of the vest, so you have a camisole top and it has uplift in the boob section, worth a try.

I find fastening them at the front and sliding them round and then putting your arms through is the easiest say for me. only wear one when going out, carn't be bothered wearing one at all if not going out lol xx

This is another thing to ask an Occupational therapist about. Probably a fairly common thing they get asked too, as its a problem for a lot of folk. I'm sure they will have a load of suggestions for you.

Unfortunately I didn't have as good an experience with OT as some on here have. They didn't really have time for any of my questions and simply wanted to give me a load of gadgets and send me home......I was so disappointed as I was new to any kind of disability and was extremely vulnerable at the time......so I went home and and learned for myself the way to do things in a way that caused me the less pain. This site too I have to say was so beneficial, don't know what I would have done without it. Thanks for your reply. X

The following link will take you to a page showing the Bucking Bra Angel.

Hi

I had a similar conversation with my ot just last week, at the moment I'm having to do mine up, step into it and pull it up, not good or easy but the best so far suggested to me.

I also have a bigger bust and can't go braless.

I tried the bra angel whilst with my ot last week and it was awful, I wouldn't recommend it.

Hopefully we will find something soon xx

You have no idea!

Thankfully I had a breast reduction a couple of years before I was diagnosed. I still look better with a bra, but going without isn't such a horror that it would have been.

Jeanabelle60 profile image
Jeanabelle60 in reply to

Do you have to be a certain size to get a reduction? I'm a 36E......I hate the bloody things......

in reply to Jeanabelle60

I paid for it, but I went from an H/I to a D. I ended up with an infection, but I am still glad I did it. I hated mine too.

God, you poor thing.....that must have been just awful.....but good on ya for going the right thing for yourself. I don't think I would qualify for funding to get mine off either.....what do we women have to put up with ah? Thanks for all your post. Jean XX

in reply to Jeanabelle60

Life isn`t fair is it. I would never be able to afford to get it done now, as working is now impossible.

If you ever are in the position to do it Jean, go for it x

No way could I afford something like that.....I need all my money for heating oil these days.....anyhow, a girl can dream.........

I use sports bras so that I get the support without the under-wire. My grand-daughter said several years ago when I was putting on my bra "Nana, you don't put a bra on like that!" and I replied that you do when you can't reach around the back to do it up. I have sometimes attached bits of ribbon to the sides to help pull the cups around to the front after fastening it.

Bra's awful things!!!! I have not found a solution but could start a bra shop!!!! I can honestly say that my hands hurt so much when my bra goes on. Like others, only wear when out. Anyone finds a solution please tell us all, now that would make us all smile. Have a good day.

It really is awful isn't it? For now it seems there is no real remedy to our problem......so dream on girls........X

Hi Girls Thanks for all the tips i might try some of them at the weekend honest it was the Steroids that done it. Mattilda

My daughter tried to get a reduction, she's 36FF. They told her that her body size wasn't small enough - she's a size16 apart from her bust and gets back ache all the time. Apparently she would have to be a size 12 with 36FF bust to get a reduction!!

Jeanabelle60 profile image

The poor girl.....you know people really don't know how much of a hinderence a bif bust is......cloths don't sit right, they don't fit right because we have to buy much larger sizes to accommodat the boobs.....they can cause terrible back, like you daughter and......what cracks me up the most is how people, especially men gawk at them.....not me, not my face but my chest......I really do hate them.....I would be a size 12 bottoms, 14/16 top.....I don't have any back ache though (I have enough pain all over the rest of my body.....don't need anymore). Thanks for the post anyhow, all the best. Jean.

That's where hubby comes in! Quite a change for him to do it up rather than take it off!

Jeanabelle60 profile image
Jeanabelle60

They do have their uses......

I know what you mean Jeanabelle, my daughter can't buy dresses as she would have to get one about 3 sizes too big, just to accommodate her boobs!! And shirts always pop open, even the larger sizes. I thought I had problems with my size D, especially now I only have one (mastectomy this time last year). But that's nothing compared to what she has to put up with. She's only 36 and can't buy pretty bras. She has to get one that's tantamount to industrial scaffolding!!

Jeanabelle60 profile image
Jeanabelle60

If you can get petite sizes they sometime can be a better fit.....my heart does out to her.....XX

Hi no solutions although when I was bad my hubby had to help put mine on for me ( goes against then grain ) but just did not seem to get things in right and had to do a lot of shuffling to feel comfy. I have a larger chest though and I don't think this helped but gave us some laughs when you don't have much to laugh about that's a bonus
