I've been on antibiotics all week can I still have my methotrexate injection tomorrow, I have a bad chest
You need to check with your GP or rheumatologist as there's no fixed answer, as so many variables. Sometimes best to skip a week of MTX and sometimes not. Polly
Hello BOB here
Have you or will you complete the course of antibiotic, Wheat did the GP say with regards to MXT. and antibiotic.
Possibly ask for a telephone appointment with the GP surgery regarding this as the MXT would have reduced the immune system. If you are suffering a bad chest, they may need to take further breathing tests as the MXT can effect breathing/lungs.
All the best
BOB
Went to the dr on Tuesday with a really bad throat, he gave me antibiotics he never said a word about my injection, it has gone to my chest now and I feel crap, I think I'll get my husband to pop to the chemist and ask there, as the G P shut and only answer machine at my RA clinic till mon and I have my injection tomorrow, thanks thou bob, nice to no you can ask these things.
Regards
Sue.
Hello Sue
It may be an idea to phone the doctors surgery now, if there is no one there you will be put through to the weekend service that acts on your GP s behalf. If this is negative call Health Direct on 111, they will be able to advise what action to take regards chest and antibiotics, and associated MXT.
With regard to the problem going into the chest it will be advisable to take instruction on above
Keep informed ok
All the best
Thanks, will do. Regards sue.
Hello Sue, if it's urgent you could also phone the hospital and ask to be put through to the on-call rheumatologist. You just need to give your hospital number and the name of your consultant and a brief description of what's happening. I have done this in an emergency situation at the weekend. Good luck.
Thanks, I have been told not to take my injection if I have a bad chest, thanks everyone.
Sorry coming in late to this, my Rheumy says if u have a bacterial infection then leave your injection until the infection is cleared up, his view is it's not an issue to leave it a week but you need to recover from the bacterial infection. Don't know though if all the rheumies agree, so when u get in touch on Monday would you let us know out of interest? Thanks A
Thanks for your reply, I am going to leave my injection for this week, but I will ask on Monday, thx again.
My specialist nurse advised me to continue with mtx when on antibiotics. She said to only skip a dose if the infection didn't clear and a 2nd course was needed. Another case of us all receiving different advice. x
Yes I no, bit disappointed in my gp really because he should of said,
My Gp doesn't give any advice to do with my Ra. They always say I need to speak to my rheumatology team. Unfortunately thats often easier said than done but thats what makes this site such a godsend. Hope you feel better soon Sue x
Thanks so do I, just hoping my hands don't start up because of not having my injection, I no it's only a week but I'm having trouble enough trying to get my pain under control, luckily I had a steroid injection a couple of weeks ago cuz of my knees so hoping it keeps my hands at bay. Thx again.
