Reading about opening jars if you insert a knife under the lip of the jar , top slightly it lets the air out and comes off easy

Yep, been doing that for 3/4 of a century! Sometimes a little help is needed, in the form of a well-muscled, strong-biceped, six-packer :)

Much safer to get one of the many jar key devices available from Lakeland etc. Even a blunt kinfe can do a lot of damage if it catches you when it slips.

I find if you bang lid on the side before you try to open it works wonders. Tried many jar openers with no success

Agree with sallyeb tap the jar lightly on side lid will loosen

Upend the container, it seems to moisten the bottle or whatever then try and open it

Tip of a spoon inserted aswell let's air out

As Nugget suggested, the tip of the spoon works well, I also use the end of the handle of a spoon, safe, free and works like a dream.
