Over the last couple of weeks I've had the opportunity to work on the National Citizen Service Programmes being run over Berkshire, which is a fantastic programme that brings together young people from different backgrounds to learn new skills and to make a difference within their local communities during the summer holidays. NRAS has been involved in the programme to raise awareness of RA within our local community, Maidenhead, and with an age group we have had difficulty connecting with (16 & 17 Yr olds). In addition to raising awareness of RA we have been recruiting fundraising volunteers and sharing our passion for the work we do. As part of the programme the young people develop their own social action project and their commitment and energy to developing their own projects has been really interesting to witness and to see how they develop their projects over a series of visits! I would recommend this to anyone thinking about doing something and remember to pass on that you can raise money for NRAS at the same time!

On another note I am very happy to report that we will be accrediting two rheumatology units in Scotland with our RA Self Management Programme (RASMP), due to a funding award we recently received, and are excited to be getting the programme running in Scotland. The RASMP is a 6 week self management programme, which aims to empower those living with RA to be more effective at managing their disease, more knowledgeable, and be more involved in decision making, working in equal partnership with their multidisciplinary team. If you are interested in the programme for the unit you attend, details on the programme can be found here: nras.org.uk/help_for_you/ra.... Details on the two Scottish units will be released in due course.

On the fundraising horizon, and yes I wasn’t going to mention it but, this year’s Christmas Cards will be up for sale around the time of the next NRAS magazine, hitting doorsteps in mid September, if you’re not a member, sign up here so you don’t miss out; nras.org.uk/help_for_you/me.... This year we are offering free postage and all profits come to NRAS, so keep an eye on the NRAS homepage and your Member’s Magazine for details on how to place your orders!

Until next time,

Oli
