Hi there

Yes you should give the mtx a miss, just been through this my consultant said the general rule is to stop the mtx while you are taking the antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon .

hi there

i will see if i can give the antibiotics a miss . before mtx . if i cant , then it looks like i have no chioce . i will ring my doctor on monday to check . thank you lorraine

Hi Notts, how you doing?

I think this is a question for your doctor or Rheumy? But someone with a bit more knowledge than me may be able to answer it :) I went to see my doctor recently and we talked about antibiotics and methotrexate, she said that if and when i was prescribed them -antibiotics - it should flag up that I was Methotrexate and any possible interactions between the two.Hope you get a reply but I would check with your doctor too.

Have a good day! :)

hi there, I think it's best to ask you doc or rheumy as everyone's a bit different and whether or not you need to stop MTX when taking antibiotics depends on your medical history, how much MTX you're taking, what the antibiotic is etc etc etc. So it's not always the same for each of us. But if you do have to, usually you only have to stop for a week or so, so it shouldn't make any difference long term as you'll still have some MTX in your body. Polly

Hiya it is properly best to ask your GP or rheumy, but when i was taking them for my tooth, i didn't have to stop taking the MTX, but all antibiotic are different depending on what they are being used for, I'm sure who ever prescribes these to you should advice you, Take care XX

thank you .. this is the same reason for me . my dentist said i may need a course of anitbiotics after just having a tooth pulled .. its left a dirty great hole and i remember the last time , i got an abcess..

i just didnt think ,at the time when he said about anitbiotics , mtx completely left my mind .. wasnt till i got home , i remembered i should of said something ..

Hi - I've had antibiotics twice since taking MTX and I was advised that I didn't need to stop either time. If you have checked with your GP or rheumy nurse and need the antibiotics then it should be okay to take both - depending on how long for and what kind of antibiotics you are prescribed. I remember when I was newly started on MTX and got a bad cold and was really worried about dropping a week's dose when it was still quite newly in my system and I was still flaring a lot so I do understand. But I have just had a month off it to check out other symptoms and found that the RA didn't really surface until week 3 to 4 so if it's been in your system for a while then it shouldn't be such an issue if it's just one dose you would be missing. Hi,

I would speak to doctors as i have been told it depends on what anti-B, As i was taken off MTX for one type but not for another.
