Thank you so much Abratforu, I really do want to give up and so disappointed with myself but as you say I will just have to wait for the right time again and hopefully that will very soon 😒

Thanks Ab I definitely want to give up but as you say i'll have to wait until the time is right again. I will quit though, it felt so right to be without cigarettes

Oh dear.

Never mind. It is not the end if the world and dies not mean you cannot try again.

Gather your strength and when you are good and ready, try again. If it helps, I had 3 relapses before I managed it.

Ah sorry to read CiggieStardust - we will be here for you when back on the horse, never give up trying, you will get there with the correct mindset that smoking is just not an option, learn from each attempt and we hope to see back on track very soon :)

Thanks Roisin . I felt so clean having given up for 2 weeks but I shan't beat myself up over smoking again. It happened and that's it. Hope to be back very soon 🙂

Hi CiggieStardust. I love the name, it would have suited me, the puffing Bowie fan I was in the 70's and 80's! Do NOT be disappointed in yourself for not being able to stop being a smoker just yet. You had not made the decision - that was all. You have to be ready to decide. Then you make the decision that you are not a smoker any more. And that is it. You cross a line and you are not able to return. You are not at that line yet... that is all. You really need to want to and to have completely decided that it (your days as a smoker) are over. Cannot be half-hearted. Decision made - no further discussion. Then you follow only 2 rules.

1. Never put a tobacco product in your mouth again.

2. Never spend a single penny of your money on tobacco products ever again.

It is that easy.

But you have to be completely ready to cross that line. It is very easy and tempting to step back into the "realm of the smoker". But that just is just a sign that maybe you hadn't really made your mind up yet. When you have decided... it is easy after that. By the way don't "quit" on anything... decide you are "Not a smoker any more"... "quitting" sounds so defeatist and loserish...

But for just now... take it easy on yourself and minimise it as far as possible. I shall try to think up a suitable new nickname for you for when you have really made the decision. Stay cool and don't beat yourself up. I would give you a "trier's badge" for a brave attempt.

Thanks Lanark. I hear what you’re saying and agree with that. Still having cravings but know that if I can avoid having a drink then I can work through them. I’m fighting a battle on two sides 😕 and really need to win both as both for health reasons

I allow myself a few glasses one night per week. In trying to defeat one enemy we occasionally make friends with another when a safe distance should be kept. Good luck with stopping being a smoker and moderation in all other things.

Take care and be kind to yourself.

PS. Being "kind to yourself" doesn't always mean giving yourself everything you think you want. Sometimes it means the opposite. Good luck!

Lanark, just reread your ps and realised what you meant. You’re so right. Will keep that in mind now and stay on the quit route for both. Many thanks 👍

Hey CiggieStardust - have you re-started your journey???

If so, perhaps create a new post on how you are getting on so you can get the deserved encouragement, help and support :)

Hi Roisin. Sorry I didn’t reply. At the moment I feel like changing my name to CiggieSmokes😒. Don’t know why I’m going through this but feeling bit down today. Just feel like crying at the moment. Didnt smoke for couple of days then straight back on them again. Know it’s only a blip but seems like a long blip!! Will post again when feeling better. Still wanting to quit but as you’ve said so many times, I just have to wait for the right mindset. Also feel hypocrite after posting so many times encouraging others to carry on the quitting route. Hopefully back with you again soon😐

Ps to Don, sorry to let you down but you were right
