Figured it's about time I introduced myself since I've been lurking around these forums for the past week or so .....
This is my 3rd and FINAL quit after 28 years of smoking 25+ per day, I know most people decide to quit for health reasons but for me my motivation is the money!
I remember telling myself that if the cost of a pack of cigs ever reached £5 then that was it, I wouldn't smoke ...... well god knows how many years later and I have been paying almost £10 per pack!!!
A few years ago I decided to quit and went cold turkey ..... I lasted less than a week and it wasn't pretty ..... I was so determined not to be snappy/grumpy/moody etc.etc. that I ended up avoiding all contact with my OH and became badly depressed.
My second attempt lasted 9 weeks (although I admit to the odd smoke in an evening) .......
This is my 3rd attempt and I am determined it will be my last ...... Because this time I will remain smoke free!!!!
I had my last cig on Thurs 12th Nov @ 22:15 ...... I am using patches to help me through my night shifts at work and also the occasional puff on an e-cig ...... not ideal I know, but at least it's not a cigarette!!!
When I have a night off work then I don't wear a patch .... but do find I need the e-cig more often!
Whenever I crave I read through the posts on here and it helps

Hey Nixxy (cool name!), welcome and well done on reaching Day 9. this forum has been such a rock for me during my quit and I am sure it will for you too. Embrace the next few weeks and keep close to here for support. Looking forward to reading your progress
That is going to be tough on you Nixxy that your other half smokes, and I feel terribly guilty that I smoked for a year and a half after my husband quit, but he battled through it and you will too. And it may even make them quit too! Don't loose the hope, you can do this!
I'm with you on the main reason to quit Nixxy. I was sick of being skint every month because I was spending so much money on tabs. After 50+ days (barring a small lapse) I've really noticed the difference, money wise. Keep it up; you will see the difference.
There are also health benefits I'm told!
I'm using e-cigs as well because they do it for me. Whatever works for you is right...for you!
Nixxy... Welcome and you have got a very good reason to quit.....In my country a 20 pack will cost 50 Pence. So money wise for us there is little gain but health wise huge gain.
Quitting is not easy and any method is good as long as can get rid of the nicotine addiction... Stay strong !!
Hi Nixxy, you've come to the right place. I think I might just have an addiction to this forum now :).
I've done 22 days now and when it gets tough I use a zero nicotine eCig. I suppose it's a bit like a baby sucking on a dummy when they can't get the real thing.....
There are so many reasons to give up but I STILL find reasons why I want just one more.
Nixxy try to think about what derailed you after 9 weeks in your last attempt. Maybe it can help you avoid something this time.
I don't think having the odd cig every once in a while ever works. This is my first serious quit where I spent more than 30 minutes thinking about it. But I "quit" dozens of times, however I always tried to cut-down considerably first. So I would smoke in the morning, or when I drank, or when a friend offered it, It never worked out for me.
Nothing wrong with having multiple reasons to quit. Health and money are not mutually exclusive. Bad health ends up costing us money down the line. Good luck.
