Eight weeks and.....

..................one day. I'll have reached two months this coming Wednesday so will be packing ready for my next room. It's going okay. I'm not smoking, I am running, I have now gained 10lbs, which I need to address so I don't have to get new trousers. I think it's a combination of still eating lots of sweet stuff particularly puddings, increase in alcohol consumption and it's a side effect of champix for me.

I've cut the champix down to every other day now and feel okay with that. I'm still thinking about having a cigarette but NOPE is working well for me.

Wll done Walkabout, 8 weeks is great! I am gaining weight too - side effect of nicotine withdrawal - running will work. I am trying to nibble on fruit - I bought a big bag of pears today. Had a coffee and meal out too and had the biggest wonderful ice cream you ever did see! Also, got a pocket full of the strongest gum/mints I can find then, when deep breathing it feels more fulfilling.

I can't really comment on champix being a newbie to it. I am going to take the full dose for 12 weeks and if needed another 12 weeks to reduce.... I have to say that without champix I would never have got this far - tbh, the biggest reason I am not smoking (at the moment) is because champix is blocking the pleasure of it so there's no point. I have been trying to find a healthy replacement and the best I have come up with is strong gum/mints followed by deep breathing and meditation.

Keep up with the champix to make sure your nicotine monster (receptors) are in a deep sleep.... evidence does suggest that 12 weeks of champix will usually do this as the drug takes time to work. I am week 6 at the moment (I have marked my packets) but I am not counting the days as this seems to make me think of ciggies more.

I do hope I can do as well as you are doing.... I am just starting to think about getting the bikes out..... :) x

Thanks Celestine. I've noticed on earlier quits that I ate a lot of carrots, which I'm not doing this time. I need to get some, and I did resist the almond croissant that I had formed a habit round on my way to work this morning. So, the weight/diet thing will fall into place eventually.

I'll go for my run this evening. And then I want to test out Bikram yoga, which I did for five years on and off, but I think the smoking was making it very difficult for me.......strike that; virtually impossible for me. Breathing was becoming so difficult.

Well done, doesn't it feel good. I didn't go down the Champix route, but have put on weight. My thoughts are, quitting smoking is hard work, and whatever it takes it over rides gaining weight. Don't forget how our sense of taste improves dramatically after quitting. We can diet when our quits are safe, please don't be hard on yourself, you are doing so well :) x

You're right Caroline. My quit I know is not secure yet. I want to continue with the champix withdrawal, and I can already feel the difference there. Today I'm getting the 'chewy'/gnashing of teeth sensation and hot flushes that I had in the early days of quitting. So the weight issue is being put aside at the moment.
