hi everyone ,gave up 1st sept2013 and after a week of hell found myself in control . Im now a stone heavier and p..... off and see people smoking and very sadly feel envious !Dont think i will go back ever and am logging in for the support that helped me in the first instance , I think i stopped my association with this forum coz i wanted to stop my association with fags if that makes sense? My breathing is so much better and have been eating fruit for the first time since i was 14! The addiction is strong at mo and i will fight it !

Howard,

I can relate to your post totally, I threw in a solid quit back in 2008 as I started to romanticise the thought that I was missing smoking and that just one wouldn't hurt.

First thing to say is that you are still an addict, as we all are - so forget any notions of just having the one for old time's sake. You take one cigarette back, and you take the tens of thousands that follow back. You take the constant hacking winter cough back. You take the £300 monthly dent in your bank balance back. You take the horrific health implications back. Sounds tempting? Thought not:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Never ever lose sight of all the reasons you chose to quit in the first place - I bet you were pretty desperate to be free of the addiction??

If you're a stone heavier then so what? - that's a whole lot better than a smoking habit, and you can start to use your new found health, wealth and energy to start a healthy diet!

I know exactly what you mean about putting the forum behind you - many others come, see, conquer and move on; that's the nature of this forum - but it's always here when you need it.:D:D

You've got a rock solid quit under your belt, you've got the power to choose, and so surely you're going to make the right choice?

The further we get away from nicotine the easier it becomes to remember it fondly and to forget all the reasons we quit in the first place.

That's why this forum is so useful, you get a daily reminder from new members of why you quit. Today's reminder for me was courtesy of Kestrel, if you've not read it, go read it now.

The desperation, sadness and self loathing jumps off the screen but if you saw him smoking in the street you'd envy him because he can smoke. That's the lie that is smoking.

Hope you get through this tough patch.

Couldn't have put it better. Kestrel's story is enough to make you weep. :(

Hold on, Howard, with everything you have. We'll be here whenever you need us.

Not what you're looking for?
