About to take the first step

Hi!

I'm here because I am about to give up smoking and feeling very nervous. If I'm 100% honest I want to give up for health, but I have to admit part of me doesnt want to because I enjoy it. So I am expecting a difficult journey which is why I thought I'd join. Due to the nature of my job I work from home some days, so I am in on my own all day and have no one to turn to so I am hoping that by being on this forum I will have people to turn to when it feels like I am struggerling! :)

Hi Abbi and welcome to the forum. Are you planning on using any form of NRT or just going cold turkey?

We all have our own reasons for stopping and we all probably felt we enjoyed smoking. However, if you read one of the non-smoking books (I read Allen Carr) it explains why we didn't really enjoy it - it was all in the mind and was just the drug talking. Once you get round this (and you accept that it wasn't enjoyable and you aren't giving anything up) you should find it a lot easier to quit.

This forum is full of helpful, supportive, kind people who are always here to give you a kick up the butt or a shoulder to cry on - whatever is needed.

Best of luck with your quit.

Sarah

Thank you for the welcome - I think I will definitely be needing the kick up the butt on occastions! I have got patches and a spray so hopefully that will help! I have heard good things about the Alan Carr book so will have a look at getting one. :o

Good luck Abbi,

When I was planning on quitting, I read a lot in this forum and it has helped me so much.

You can do it.. :) I hope I can be a non smoker forever too (it's only my 12th day as a non smoker) It's hard but I do feel like I've gone through a major accomplishment.

Hi Abbi :) You can get the Allen Carr from Amazon or eBay really cheaply and it's well worth it!!

Warning

I have intermittent Claudication in my Legs caused by smoking since the diagnosis I have stopped smoking its 2 weeks today! By not smoking and the medication they have given me it should stop it getting any worse hopefully even a little better. But I was told in no uncertain terms if I continued to smoke I will be risking losing a leg possibly both! So please take this as a warning don't ever smoke again, if you have a crave look at your legs and imagine life without them.

Welcome to the forum Abbi, you have made the best decision of your life and I wish you well with your quit. This forum will certainly help log on each day and read read read. I am a fan of Allen Carr so I would definitely give that a go if I were you as I believe it is what really helped me change my mindset:)
