How did you do it. I am on day one and am having horrible withdrawls right now. I need some advice.

It gets better, really really does. If you find yourself craving, I found it useful to do something else to take my mind off of it. A number of ways is to make a nice hot drink, or eat some sweets, or mints, i also call up my girlfriend if it's conveniant, so perhaps get a buddy you can call who will shout at you for thinking about cigarettes and who can tell you why they are aweful, when you are craving your brain makes you beleive they are the bees knees! They aren't. The cravings get much more manageble!

Also coming on here to rant, or read other peoples success stories gives me some inspiration to keep going! Sometimes, after i've logged in and read a few posts or created a new post myself, It gets me through a crave.

Also, I'd like to warn you I'm pretty delirious right now so i apologise if this makes little sense!

All the best x

Thankyou for your kind words people!

Today has been a whole lot easier with the cravings, but it was a really stress free day! The hard times are to come no doubt when i encounter things that i associate with smoking. But, I'll have the added bonus of knowing i can handle it and get over the cravings.

I will beat the demon! And I am trying my best to remember how much i hate it and how bad it is for me, and to never forget i was a smoker. That way, I wont get complacent as mentioned!

Dave

Week 2, well done my love:). The first few days/week are IMO the worst, so hopefully relatively plain sailing for you now. You're sounding very positive Dave.

Wow. The first week cold turkey. I admire you Dave! :)

Such a great achievement and it only gets better. I know I come on here a lot and complain (it really does help to get the negative thoughts out of your system), but 5 weeks on I'm beginning to feel like there's some real purpose behind my hard work.

It's so so nice not to smell those stale fags on your clothes and to not worry that you've forgotten your lighter and cigarettes every time you leave the house (still sometimes have the initial panic, then realise I don't need them ). I think my favourite part so far is settling down to watch a film and not getting the *pang* half way through. Going to for an appointment and not thinking "how long will it take?" or "should I have a cigarette before I go in?".

The list goes on and on!! :)

Be sure to remember your favourtie things about quitting, if the going gets tough. It gives you that *kick* that you need to get back ont track.

I hope you're very happy with yourself and remember to reward!! x

Today has been good! It's wierd that my asthma is getting progressively worse as i've quit smoking. I have gone back to stronger medication so hopefully that sorts it out :)

I bought this new fabric softener for washing my clothes, it smells sublime! I love that i have my sense of smell back, and sense of taste. It is a big reminder of how well i am doing!

Tomorrow is day 10, finally into double digits! That alone will be a big booster for me waking up knowing it's day 10!

You're doing brilliantly Dave :)

Wonder if your asthma is worse 'cos your lungs are clearing out? Know I got one hell of a cough and am not asthmatic so maybe?

Anyway you are going to be doing yourself a huge favour not breathing in all that evil stuff :)

Congrats Dave, and welcome to day 10! :)

It's good to rejoice at so many consecutive days, you're doing really well. When I was at your stage I started to get a bit angry which I turned into defiance. Worked for me, and that's why I'm using 'it's only a plant' as my strap line for this process. Just some weedy, brown, shrivelled, sorry looking, good for nothing, wilted bunch of rubbish in a pot. Easy to belittle - its not really like that of course but hey, whatever works psychologically!

We're better than that, better than it, and defiance can lead to self-belief quite quickly. You've got it, CT seems to be working fine for you so keep beating the plant Dave, stay strong! Week three then a month before you know it.....Haha!! :D
