argh...day 6, hot and sunny.. I just want to go outside and sit on the park near my office and have a cigarette HELP!!!
craving: argh...day 6, hot and sunny.. I just... - No Smoking Day
craving
Nothing is stopping you from going to the park and enjoying the sunshine - I'm about to do just that...
Whilst you're enjoying the sunshine - take in some really deep breaths and think about how GOOD all that oxygen tastes and feels ... you'll be as high as a kite on Oxygen in no time and wondering what all the fuss about smoking is?
It is tough - but it is just a wee little trigger that you can get through!
I posted the other day about the sunshine being a trigger - I think as we get further along in our quits all sorts of things will be crave triggers i.e. first Christmas or whatever. We just have to work through them and remember it is the nicdemon trying his / her luck
Oh yes - just about everyone will experience their own personal triggers - I think in 10 years time there will still be triggers that set me off craving for a bit.
But I think you get more comfortable with them and learn that the cravings don't last very long. Okay - some days do seem like just one big long intense crave but it doesn't last! And that is the thing to remember.
The situation that is causing a trigger is not going to change regardless of whether you smoke or not...the sun will still shine, the person you sit next to at work will still be irritating, your boss will still be 'you-know-what'....a trigger is just your sneaky nicotine addicted brain trying to tell you that you'll feel better after a cigarette and then once you've had one, the sneaky brain doesn't care coz he's happy and you feel rubbish for having given in.
And once you've experienced the same trigger a couple of times and not smoked, you stop wanting a cigarette at that point. It is amazing just how quickly that happens. And you will be amazed at how many trigger points there are - how many excuses did we use to have a smoke....the human mind can be so very sneaky to itself....
Anyway - the point of this ramble is to say that whilst in the early days the triggers will be many and strong and horrible - they do get alot less and a whole load easier to cope with and eventually you'll hardly think about smoking at all.
