Day 34 - don't give up!

Hi Aljhamdi29

You're on day 34 - don't give up -you've done so well. Yes the cravings can get very bad around this time.

For me, deep breathing works. Also, going outside and walking. Drinking water helps too.

The cravings only last for about 30 seconds so if you can occupy yourself for this length of time then you'll overcome them.

Congratulations on getting to day 34.

Thanks for the advice nonico but the cravings last more than 30 seconds for me, alot more. There is also one more thing I forgot to ask about and that is sleeping, I haven't been able to sleep for 3 days now, is this normal for people that are quitting smoking? or should I visit my doctor?

Just try and stick through the cravings, you dont want to cave and give in to the cigarette now when you have gone 34 DAYS without smoking!!!!!:)

That is such an excellent achievment and if you give in now and have that one cigarette you will not enjoy it and you will be completely miserable because now the 34 days that you got through will mean nothing and you have to start from scratch again! You are doing so well! Keep going... YOU CAN DO IT! Dont give into that little nicotine monster in your subcontious mind, you can defeat him! You have for so long already! WELL DONE

The choice is yours...Make the right one and remind yourself of the reasons you quit in the first place.

I'm gonna start walking around the park to forget about the nicotine crave.

I get what you're saying!

Hi Alghmed

I did mean that the cravings are intense for 30 seconds even though they come & go all day.

As for sleeping, most people have sleeping problems when they quit. If you do a forum search you'll find one called - "Other symptoms of quitting" & on there you'll find some threads on sleeping.

A good idea to walk around the park. On another thread, I posted a link on reprogramming the subconscious mind. You may find some of the ideas helpful.

Hi Alghmed

Well done!! Your doing great. I struggled with sleeping, sometimes that seemed to be the worst time, it will pass. It's 8 weeks for me on Sunday. I've found walking is helping me. Get out in the fresh air, breath deep and keep telling yourself how much healthier and fitter your getting. This forum is great, I read how everyone else has managed to get through the difficult times. Then I realise while i've been reading about not smoking I haven't been craving!!! Keep up the good work!!

Thank you guys alot for all your help and support, I hope this time I will stop for good. I have been around the park a couple of times and for the first time in 5 years I feel abit more energetic :)

The cravings have gone for now but sleeping is the problem, I feel depressed for some reason :(, now going on to my fourth day with only 2 hours sleep.

It sounds like you need an herbal nightime sleep aid to help you sleep, the lack of sleep alone will really throw you off and make you feel at odds. Good Job, getting through the first 3 days. ;)

Going well

Hi Alghamdi29

You're going well - all of the symptoms you mention are perfectly normal & will eventually lessen.

As for depression - exercise really helps & believe it or not the most effective anti depressant food has been found to be sardines. I'm sure there are others but sardines are number 1.

I know this as I was watching a debate & the scientists were presenting their case for sardines. People in the audience were putting up their hands and saying things like " will tuna do?" but the scientists said no - it's sardines.

Apparently the anti depressant qualities are related not only to the chemicals in fish but to the size too.

Good for you

Hi Felic2012

Yes, it's a good idea to have sardines. I toast them on bread - they're not too bad. I put vinegar on & I find them quite nice.

If you aren't that keen on the sardine taste then you can buy them in tomato sauce. One good thing about sardines - if you're not that keen on them their taste can be masked with sauces.

I don't know if I could eat them cold but toasting them on bread really helps me.

I'm on day 34 with you Alghamdi.

All the side effects will eventually disappear, wouldn't you rather go through a little discomfort of withdrawal and a few less hours of sleep on a temporary basis than fill your lungs and body with chemicals again and get sucked back into a long term habit?

You've done 34 days and it will get better.

Read all the posts from the areas of the forum for the longer term quitters.

All you have to do is stay tough.

You can stay tough can't you? :p
