Erm.... haven't taken my Champix yet

Well I am a couple of hours into Day 10 and I haven't taken my Champix yet:o because I really don't feel up to facing the nausea even though it is not so bad at Day 21 (Champix, only Day 10 not smoking). Am not craving a smoke right now but scared I might do later if I don't take the tablet. So I will take one later, but I am really worried about becoming phsycologically dependent on these things? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Zoe

Hi Zoe

I have skipped my second Champix of the day twice before and.... no effect at all. This is what convinced me that it would be ok to halve my dose, which has also helped with the side effects.

I am currently taking 0.5 mg twice a day, and my next plan is to drop one of them (probably in about a week's time) and see what happens. Increasingly, I am feeling that now the physical addiction and most of the routine smoking habits have been broken, that Champix is more of a security blanket than an absolute necessity. I think that this is a bit different to being dependent on them though - I wouldn't worry too much about that. They aren't the most appealing drugs to take, are they?!

Thanks Mrs T,

It is reassuring that you are on half the original dose and still don't feel like smoking - I thought at first that I would need them for life lol!! I will take one later this evening as the evening one doesn't affect me so badly and then get back to normal tomorrow just in case. And when I see my doc I might ask him if I can take 0.5mg four times a day instead of 1mg twice a day, that way I might be able to miss one out sometimes and come off them gradually.

Meanwhile look at me, into Day 10 without smokes lol:D Sure Champix has helped, but think this forum has done more really, so don't disappear girls and guys cos I think I am addicted to you now. But that is a good addiction:D

Hi

Well done for getting this far. I also quit on Champix - it's a great help in the early stages. Physically you will lose the craving quite quickly but you still have the psychological hurdles to get over.

I was feeling quite ill on Champix (though I think it's a wonder drug) so cut down without any problems. Rather than miss a tablet, I started cutting them in two, then gradually missing one. I stopped taking them all together about a month early.

I think you'll be fine if you start gradually reducing your dose - and if it's not right for you, you can always go back to the higher level. Good luck. And have confidence in yourself as well as the meds - seems like you've done great so far.

Hi Zoe,

Well done for getting so far.

I also missed a couple and had no effects so decided that I would just take one mg a day rather than two and that has been fine with me. My OH tried to do the same but felt his craving returned so went back up.

On our next visit to the nurse we have to decide about how to come off. I want to reduce and then stop and I feel that is the best way forward for my OH. although not addictive I do think they become a bit of a crutch.

Thanks for the replies everyone, always helpful. Think I will do what I said before, ask my doc if I can have 0.5mg four times a day instead of 1mg twice a day. Missed a tablet yesterday and had niggly cravings, not bad enough to make me smoke though. And at 12.14 lunchtime I will be starting Day 11 yaaaay:D Can't believe it:cool:
