i know wat your saying i have suffered depression on and off and i remember wen i smoked i would smoke alot lot extra wen i felt like it to ward off the feelings [or it was just a good excuse to smoke more]

i have found my depression has not came back to haunt me half as much since i quit even at my vunerable times, so whether the smoking actually increased the the problems [ yeah more than likely]

so wen i do feel down it is abit strange to cope with it without smoking my way through but gradually it has got easier but smoking definately crosses my mind more at those times

as time goes on maybe the paranoid feeling will get easier and easier to manage, do you feel the amount it happens is less since quitting

i just think its all about giving ourselves time and our brains have to get used to change and its all a gradual process

Nic,

I hate that feeling when you don't know what to do with yourself! Are you paranoid around people? if so, sometimes I find heading to the toilets if you are out somewhere or even if you have people around to take a breather works a bit and calms you down. If it is work then maybe just take a coffee break, play a game online. You are doing great and as you say, it is hard to break a habit that you associated with feelings when it was your safety blanket for so long. Reading the long term quitters, they seem to say this goes away.
