hi all...not sure if am being a silly sod as only on day 2 of champix. but ive been warned it changes the taste of certain things. well i have indulged in my last weekend of a tipple before my quit date and my vodka and red bull tastes of vanilla! surely the champix couldnt be doing that already...can it?
if so i dread to think what its gonna do to my taste buds over the next few weeks lol!
at least its not a nasty taste i guess.
what else has champix changed the taste of for you?

well i have the bad breath anyway from smoking i guess and little sense of smell. give me a week or three after quitting and no doubt i will totally agree with you!
despite that i am just enjoying my last night of relaxing and chillin.
i love the red bull as i have 2 kids under 5 so if it wasnt for the caffiene i would have no 'me' time as i would go to bed when they do (7pm!). i will have to pack it in soon anyway i guess so this is kinda my last weekend of alcohol for the forseeable future.
you've all been there i'm sure...dont mean to rub it in. sorry if it seems that way, just curious bout the taste thing.
thanks for reading. hope i havent made anyone jealous by posting this. i look forward to being smoke free even if it means giving up my 'me' time for a few months.
cut down on caffiene too?!?!?!?!!?NOOOOOOO!:eek::eek:
i better hope im one of the lucky ones as that will make quitting doubly hard.
total caffiene addict in all its forms. coffee coke & redbull are pretty much all i drink regularly. know its not healty but neither was smoking and i can only tackle on thing at a time with any hope of success.
jen:
I joined both the champix forum and the march quitters. tho my quit date is 28th of march i may be better of in the april group to talk to folk going through the same stages as me. what do you think? or should i be cheeky and use both?
Thanks for sharing your idea here. I appreciate your idea, very excellent.
Oh I like to watch TV with my lunch.
Normally I have a cheese sandwich with a bag of crisps and a chocolate bar with a can of fizzy drink.
But my mate Steve tells me that fizzy pop is really bad for your teeth, which leaves me with another problem.
You see I can only eat cheese when I drink fizzy pop or it makes me feel sick, and now that I know fizzy pop is bad for my teeth I know that I will not be able to eat my cheese sandwich whilst watching your online TV broadcast.
So here is the kicker - what should I do??? No Sandwich = no TV, so I phone my Australian mate and explain my problem and he says:
"G-day mate if you want to watch TV why dont you have spam in your sandwich?"
And who would ever have thought spam would infact be the answer?

I have been on champix for 9 days my quit day was my 8th day and I have not been smoking for 27 hours ish.
The side effects I have had are: I am really boated, tummy cramps, taste of things have definately changed as well. Made me feel sick when I was smoking in my first week and I can honestly say the cigerettes were vile. Day 5 on the tablets and I had 5 cigerettes the whole day (I smoked 20-25 a day).
I know if I had one just now it would taste yuk. I defo have nausea.
I think the tablets are definately helping with the cravings, I just need to get my head around the fact that I dont smoke anymore, which is harder at the times that were your trigger points, ie when your having a cuppa, after dinner etc.
I keep thinking of the positives and also the cost I will save as well.

Thanks so much for sharing Linda. I'm on day 7 of Champix my quit day was around 12/13 but yesterday I decided to stop. About 37 hours now and not too bad, wth the exception of a few strong cravings today. Totally understand about the bloating, got that today big time! I picked up some laxatives today maybe that will help..
How have you been doing? Did you find the cravings less and less each day or did they increase before they decreased?
Hi Val and all, constipation at the start of stopping smoking is normal with or without Champix. It will come back to normal I think within a few days. I remember when I used to smoke I would go to the loo after my first ciggy.
Val well done 37 hours that's a massive start, your getting there. As I said take it a few hours at a time. I hope we hear from you tomorrow that will then be 48 hours at 1pm if I'm right.
