Champix is good, but side effects ...

Day 18 for me I think - I'm not counting the days any more, just the weeks! It's going really well. I started Champix 4 days before the quit - in fact, I should have started 8 days in advance, but I'd set my quit date to link with some traveling, and asked the doc too late about the pills.

For me, the pills have worked well. They effectively suppress the desire for nicotene, rather than replace the nicotene which is good, because you don't then have to quit the patches and the gum a few weeks after the first trauma of quitting cigarettes. However, the side effects have been very noticeable -- farting, bad insomnia and quick temper loss! (Thank god wife already quit a year ago.) For me the side effects are well worth it (not sure wife thinks so), and I'm feeling very pleased with myself (about quitting). I think when I reach 4 weeks, I'll try stopping the Champix. Good luck all!!

farting, bad insomnia and quick temper loss!

sounds much the same as CT apart from the farting, and to be honest the farting part sounds rather fun :) your right, all these side effects are short term, well worth it for a whole life smoke free ahead of us,

best of luck with the quit,

No, i've gone cold turkey and have been trumping like a trumpeter from trumpsville, but that is the sugar free mints or even worse, sugar free humbugs :o. I would much rather have the side effects of the mints than those of smoking.

I love the benefits of not smoking and just generally not smoking. It is windy and freezing as hell outside and I don't have to go out there :D

I am on Champix also and quit on day 4 of the tablets. I've been taking them 2 or so weeks now and to be honest half the time I forget to take them (Took one yesterday morning and none since) my side effects are vivid dreams and sickness after I've taken the tablet. I have noticed a little rise in the gas department however luckely not that much

I also quit 3 just over 3 weeks ago using Champix and have not felt the need to come on this website again until today!! Up until now have found it really easy but have quite a lot of stress (family things) at the moment and could quite easily have murdered most of my work colleagues today - very short tempered and down..:(

Just soooo pleased that we are all farting for England - could try and harness that and create some new type of gas we could market!! :D

im also using champix. stopped on day 10 of taking them and now half way through week 3 of stopping. getting cravings more it would seem now than before. dreams seem to have eased off well not so vivid as the beginning but cant seem to shake the feeling of having a smoke.

hopefully this will pass.

David,

Try reducing your dosage a little bit. I had the same thing... the desire to smoke never subsided. Was the same from day 1 to day 14. Although it wasn't overwhelming it was annoying. I figured, if I am going to feel withdrawl anyway I might as well wean myself off the champix. I reduced my dosage in half and it was like someone turned off a dripping tap inside my head. The tightness in my chest went away and my desire subsided (not completely but a good chunk)

Give it a shot... if that doesn't work for you, you can always bump back up to full dosage.
