Hi All

Its day 2 and I have now done 38hours and I am finding it really hard going. Today is worse than yesterday the cravings come constantly, I keep looking for my tin, I am going back to the gearden now to keep buzy but will be back on again later as I find reading the posts brilliant.

Any advice would be great please

Hi Dee

You can only be doing it cold turkey if it's that bad? I find the patches really stop me craving so if you think you're going to smoke go and get some NRT's , gum or inhalator is good too. I have both! I did try to cold turkey once but it was too unbearable for me. I wish i could do it though as i believe the nicotine is supposed to all be out in 72hrs(?) and then it starts getting easier.

Well done Dee. I managed it cold turkey and yes it's true what Jude says about the nicotine being out of the system after 3 days. The 2 biggest things I can think of at the moment are to have diversionary tactics and also to read and educate yourself about the quit.

I think that you are doing well what with going out to the garden and keeping busy. Reading here also is helping you and the more you read the more information you'll gather....drrr, a bit thick that. What I mean is that you should delve into different parts of the site and learn about what's happening to you, other issues such as 'junkie thinking'....go to the search facility above here and look for different topics and threads with salient information should pop up. Have a look in the hyperlinks and see if anything is of interest.

What you also are having to do is unpick the psychological brain washing over the years that tells you that smoking is a good thing. It's not...it's poison....and we don't need it....and you can function well without that crutch. Others do, so why not you too? This is a difficult time but with some perseverance you should get past this and into a fantastic new smoke free world. It does get easier, and you should keep that in focus during any difficult times.

Keep on keepin on,

Cav

Hi Dee :)

You're doing great by the end if three dats all the nicotine will be out of your system and it will get easier for you

When the craves hit drink some water, yes I know it sounds daft but for some reason it seems to help, go for a walk do anything you like except smoke

Jude thanks for support, I have got 16hour patches and inhilator in cupboard but really want to try without for the reason you mentioned only 3 days and most of the nicotine gone. I have now gone over 40 hours of the 72 hours so really trying to hang in here, but it is hard. I smoked for 40 years so knew it would not be easy. If desperate will go to patches and inhilator before the real thing though, have to crack it.

Well done you for quitting, it doesnt matter what way, how long have you done ????

LOL Dee , I'm kinda still quitting - I started over a year ago. I do keep lapsing, and having odd ones here and there, sometimes this makes me start again for a day or a week even and then i have to start giving up all over again. (Don't recommend this at all - take it from me, there is no such thing as just one!)

I keep trying- It's really not as hard as i thought, but it's more my total and utter belief that i should i be able to control it, and just have one when i want that is my problem.

Good luck, once you've quit, don't ever have another one- don't waver from your decision . When I lapse, I don't even enjoy it- It's horrible and makes me want another one very soon!

Keep going Dee!

Hello!

I too am day two and like a bear with a sore head! I need some milk and have had to get a friend to go to the shop for me so I'm not tempted by the racks of fags behind the counter! ;)

You're doing great! Just think, at the end of tomorrow, the nicotine will be gone! :)

Heres some things that work for me when it gets hard:

1. read/post on here

2. take deep breaths of aromatherapy pulse point roll on (nealsyardremedies.com/Remed...

3. Have a bath with lovely bubbles in it

4. Make a cup of tea

5. Suck on a lolly

6. Choose a recipe to try the coming week (everything tastes so much better)

7. Watch some anti smoking you tube videos or quitters stories

8. Revisit the reasons to stay stopped

9. Choose life! :)

I hope that helps a little! Day 3 for us tomorrow :)

Good luck both for day 3.

However hard this may seem, the benefits and life changing rewards make up for it more than 10 fold. Its so hard to see this at the start of a quit, it would be so nice to get just 10 minutes experience of the difference in feeling between say .. now.. and in 3-4 months time.. or longer... the whole state of mind, the way you feel is so much better.. and however it seems now, its only short lived.. and once the feelings of achievement start truly kicking in, you'll find this is the best thing in the world.

Here's to you both !
