Itchy patches!

Hi hope someone can help!

I'm on week 2 of the 21mg patches at the moment, and they've suddenly started making me itch like crazy! I'm following all the instructions and sticking them in a different place every time - I'm not going to use my arm again as it's still itching now from the one I had on there Friday. It seems worse when I take the patch OFF - which is weird!

I don't want to stop using the patches as they're working really well for me - so has anyone else suffered this? And do you have any tips on getting rid of the itching? I'm going to try some Aloe Vera gel on my arm and on my belly (where I just removed one from!) and see if that helps, but any other advice would be appreciated.

I'm sure everyone at work thinks I have fleas!!!!! :p

Gosh that sound terrible, would love to help, but didn't do patches. So all I can say is you have my sympathy and I am sure someone, Jase maybe, will be around to give any advice they can.

Do you have fleas?

Definitely no fleas - we adopted a little stray cat a couple of weeks ago so the other cats and the whole house have been treated just in case - fleas don't stand a chance in here! ;)

Unless my patches have fleas!

OMG patches with fleas, does that mean they are hooked on the nicotine. Now I have some very weird pics in my head of stoned fleas, I need help:eek:

HI Madcatwoman,

I'm using the patches too. Have you tried putting them on your back? I've found they they stick well there and don't give me any hassle

I was thinking about putting one on my bum tonight for a change - haven't tried there yet! Yeh I put my first one on my upper back and that seemed ok - I can't reach to do it myself though and the boyfriend is in bed and will shout at me if I wake him up! :D

I tried the bottom of my back too where I can actually reach - but that one fell off halfway through day 4 and made ME shout at people cos I forgot to take a spare!

Ha, I put one on my bum once and it itched like mad!!! I don't recommend it....I've often thought about sticking one on each eyelid though so I can find any cigarettes

I found the trick to patches was to put them in places where you sweat the least.

For me the best place i found was at the base of my neck but an inch lower down and to the side, just under where your shoulders tend to start by the neck.

The itching seems to go away after a while anyway, but daaaaaaamn it itches so much when it does.. so experiment.. location is everything.

Itchy Patches

Hi Catwoman ,

I used the patches for 3 months . I started out with nicotinell and they made me itch like crazy to start with and my arms , followed by my legs were left with raised red circles for days from where I stuck them.

I then started putting them on my back which I found to be a lot less irritating. At around the 6 week mark I switched to niquitin cq clear 24 hr patches as they were on offer in a local supermarket. I found them to be even less irritating and I continued with them for my final 6 weeks going from stage 2 to stage 3 during this period.

Despite the itching I would not have managed without the help of them particularly during the first month.

Hope this helps you .

Regards Trev

Same here

I have used the patches and I would look like a spotted leopard with fleas from itching so much. The red whelps would stay there for days regardless of where I would put them. But granted they sure do work. I'm trying CT this time but have the patches incase I need them. I would use some anti-itching cream to put on the spots and that seemed to help.

I totally understand where you are coming from, and yes the bum will itch terrbily the next day and if your not careful people will look at you funny when it gets to itching bad!!!!!

Good luck!

Mic.

Hi mcw

I used patches for my first quit and itched like mad. Doctor told me it was the alcohol so he said wave them about after opening just before you stick them on. Good luck hope you stop itching soon.xxxxx

Funny you should say that - I went from Nicotinell to Niquitin at the weekend! (Same reason as you - they were on offer!)

I find they itch even MORE - but only when I first stick one on, and it goes away after about an hour. I think it seems worse as they're see-through and I can see the redness through the patch. They stick better too so I'm not constantly checking it's still attached! :)

Luckily I'm down to the mid-strength ones now, they're smaller - I was running out of skin that wasn't red to put those huge things!

Hi Cat , look on the bright side ....when you do stop using the patches the relief of not itching will help you through the C.T. Have you tried them on the top of your back yet ? as this helped for me.:)
