Hi, im new! I have decided to stop smoking, starting tomoro.

Main reason, lol, (dont laugh) I am having a breast enlargement, and it helps to stop the scarring. but i figured as im getting the body i want, i may aswel get it fit and healthy, starting with stopping smoking, i also plan to start going to the gym n stuff when i havent smoked for a while.

Im starting on patches, with masses of lollys to keep my hands busy

So, anyone got any tips?.

Cat xx:)

Welcome Cat and good on you for quitting. don't know if this is your 1st quit or not but would recommend you read the links in peoples sig, and try and keep a positive mental attitude (PMA)

Lots of people round here have quit using patches, so i am sure they will be along soon to give you loads of help and support.

Nobody here is going to laugh at you, whatever your reason for quitting we are just really happy you are not smoking.

So keep us posted as to how you are getting on, and if and when you need help there is always someone around.

Hey Cat,

welcome to the forum! Lollies are good...... gummy bears are better ;) Biggest message on this forum is educate yourself about your addiction and what to expect. The more you know, the easier it is to best craves and get through the tough times. It may seem impossible at times but stick with it..... the freedom you will gain, will be worth every minute you may have to suffer..... Post often, support others, and take one day at a time. Good luck you!!!

Hi Kat,

Sounds a good enough reason to me, the wife is thinking something similar with our extra cash :-))))))

As well as the advice given regarding reading links, read some of my posts regarding extra energy, etc etc since giving up.

I've just started the gym myself after 7 weeks and I feel 20 years younger.

I personally found the electronic ciggies finally helped me to quit.

Regards

Paul

electric cigs

I don't have any links to them, my wife spotted them in our local shopping centre.

Basically, they emulate fags, have a nicotine thing inside them and give off smoke. They never feel as good as the real thing, but are as close as it will ever get imo, so willpower will still be needed.

It helped me to think that when I needed a puff, say driving, after a row etc, to have my electric ciggie, and I also likened our need to suck on a fag at times of stress to that of a baby needing to suck their dummy, which is true if you think about it.

Will find a link for you, give me 5 mins.

ecslimited.co.uk/

Im not associated with them in any way either, but after trying all the patches, gums, etc, this is the one that got me off.

Others have reported success with this Champix.

Well done on deciding to quit.:)

I would say just take it a day at a time and lots of deep breaths. I often breathe in and out really deeply as though I'm actually smoking and although I look really stupid I do find it helps.

Another thing I would say in the early days is distracting yourself when you're really desperate by doing something else if you can i.e going for a walk or swimming. You can't smoke in the pool. :D

Good luck.:)

Hi Joanna,

I've done that too, sucking in and out pretending or emulating the smoking of a fag in the early days. Initially with the electric ciggie, then afer a few days, with a pen to get rid of the nicotine and i've even done it with my finger when neccessary!!!!
