Hi, im new! I have decided to stop smoking, starting tomoro.
Main reason, lol, (dont laugh) I am having a breast enlargement, and it helps to stop the scarring. but i figured as im getting the body i want, i may aswel get it fit and healthy, starting with stopping smoking, i also plan to start going to the gym n stuff when i havent smoked for a while.
Im starting on patches, with masses of lollys to keep my hands busy
So, anyone got any tips?.

Welcome Cat and good on you for quitting. don't know if this is your 1st quit or not but would recommend you read the links in peoples sig, and try and keep a positive mental attitude (PMA)
Lots of people round here have quit using patches, so i am sure they will be along soon to give you loads of help and support.
Nobody here is going to laugh at you, whatever your reason for quitting we are just really happy you are not smoking.
So keep us posted as to how you are getting on, and if and when you need help there is always someone around.
welcome to the forum! Lollies are good...... gummy bears are better Biggest message on this forum is educate yourself about your addiction and what to expect. The more you know, the easier it is to best craves and get through the tough times. It may seem impossible at times but stick with it..... the freedom you will gain, will be worth every minute you may have to suffer..... Post often, support others, and take one day at a time. Good luck you!!!
I don't have any links to them, my wife spotted them in our local shopping centre.
Basically, they emulate fags, have a nicotine thing inside them and give off smoke. They never feel as good as the real thing, but are as close as it will ever get imo, so willpower will still be needed.
It helped me to think that when I needed a puff, say driving, after a row etc, to have my electric ciggie, and I also likened our need to suck on a fag at times of stress to that of a baby needing to suck their dummy, which is true if you think about it.
Hows it going today, Im like you and gave up for a boob job only the other way a reduction and a tummy tuck. (we're never satisfied are we) I have been clean for 10 days and my op is this coming Thursday.
But since giving up my reasons have changed I dont have to give up I want to and believe me I feel so much better.
Keep at it girl, and stay with the forum its the biggest help.
Sorry missed this yesterday I hope all goes well for you today it will be the best thing you ever did for yourself

heey yeah. i had my first day today, got my patch on, frantically chewing on chewing gum though lol. cant get that feeling out of the back of my throat! xx
Hi cat-hows things, hanging in there i hope, just remember-first 3 days is the worst and it will get better-it really is worth it, you gain your freedom and health, what a fabulous payback xxxxx
I would say just take it a day at a time and lots of deep breaths. I often breathe in and out really deeply as though I'm actually smoking and although I look really stupid I do find it helps.
Another thing I would say in the early days is distracting yourself when you're really desperate by doing something else if you can i.e going for a walk or swimming. You can't smoke in the pool.
I've done that too, sucking in and out pretending or emulating the smoking of a fag in the early days. Initially with the electric ciggie, then afer a few days, with a pen to get rid of the nicotine and i've even done it with my finger when neccessary!!!!
