yes, very well done on getting to day 7 - thats a great achievement in itself!
as to when we reach the top of the hill - I'm not sure as I'm only a Day 9 non smoker myself, but for me the second week is one hell of a lot easier than the first. I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm enjoying life again!
I guess we all plateau then get better, then plateau again...
You are REALLY close to Week 2 though so I reckon you might see some light at the end of the tunnel soon.
Hang in there and this place is full of great supportive people if the cravings get bad
The user name? - an old nickname from when I was at sea.
I've been building up to this a while, I noticed a while ago that I can go all day without smoking and wasn't enjoying the first fag of the evening, oddly it made me feel depressed - don't know if that is normal or not.
But the one I could not break was the connection between beer and smoking - so I stopped drinking as well. I am thinking about having a few beers tomorrow to test my resolve further, working on the theory that if it doesn't kill me it will only make me stronger. Thing is, the way I am looking at it is that I like a few beers at the weekend so it is the cigs that are stopping me having them - just puts me off them even more
Good luck with your quit, I really do hope you make it. I drank some wine last night and didn't get the urge to smoke at all . . . but then I was at home . . . but also it's a hassle to go outside n smoke esp if weather is bad so go and enjoy your beer and don't let the smoke stop you enjoying them!
(please excuse my rambling here, i find this important to say)
Sorrry i saw your post only just now, but the only thing i can offer you is what you know already. A single smoke? a single puff on a cigarrette is never reward for having done well to quit.. it is the very thing that makes you fail, and what you got going on here is the addiction creating a justifiable illusion that its ok to just have one. Just as someone on a diet will have a single chocolate bar in the middle of thier diet, despite them saying 'no more chocolate bars ever'.
Resist the feeling, deny the thought that one is ok.. its just not, trust me its not. I've been there, and it was that '1 is ok as you've done so well thing' that started me off on a 20 a day habit again for many months, and i kicked myself for it.. majorly.. and twice.
It never stops at one... never. At least it never would with me, thats why you've got to tough it out so damn hard when you get that voice telling you its ok. That voice is you, the other you the bit that is still being horsewhipped by your addiction... it uses reason to get you to give in to just the one, and once you do, its got you again.
Just don't go there mate, don't give in, and learn from my past mistakes, it will save you a fortune, and the heartache.
congratulations is that you now an official week 2 resi then? I'll tidy up week 3 for you too as i've made a mess in there with crumbs from the cookie jar.. again. oops
I agree with all that Jasse said there, and I too would be fishing through a bin for a smoke in that situation, i've never done it, but i know that I would do it.
We are no different to alcoholics imo, and they have to admit there an alcoholic and swear never to touch another drop. Thats how I've looked at my "quit" and have adopted the same approach.
I tell my friends im a recovering smokaholic, they laugh, but it works for me
