Hi and welcome to the forum.

Are you going cold turkey or using something (NRT champix etc)

What ever way you go read as much as you can about quitting so you are prepared and it help to focus your mind. The most important thing with quitting is to have the right attitude and determination.

Can't help you with the getting pregnant thing though (although some may offer ;))

Best of luck with both

Nic

Good for you

Really pleased your quitting especially if your trying for a baby.

Everyone will come on and give you links to useful sites, I used patches at first then went cold turkey, it's not an easy journey but a do-able one and we will all help and encourage you over the days weeks months.

Dood luck and keep posting on here and reaading what others have been through and don't worry it's not all doom and gloom on the forum in fact sometimes it's hilarious.

Good luck

I'm giving up smoking next Monday as I am trying to get pregnant & as I am no longer a spring chicken smoking lessens my chances:

I am going to try NRT (24 hr patches & inhalator) the problem I have is that my partner is also a smoker, he is supporting me in quitting but isn't ready to quit himself. How do I stop the cravings when I'm constantly surrounded by some else smoking:eek:

Good decision ScoobyDoo...especially for the baby-to-be;)

When I was trying2fall pregnant, friend of mine (midwife) gave me such a bo**ocking for smoking - I had no idea it would lessen my chances:confused:

When I got pregnant, the doctor said "oh don't worry bout giving up smoking, the stress will do more damage than the smoking"?!?!? I was only smoking 10/day but can you imagine a doc saying that today?? (it was 26yrs ago:eek:)

Don't do it my way, quit now while you can...

good luck with the quit and the baby

smoking partner...

Could you negotiate a deal with your partner to only smoke outside? Would have thought not unreasonable request as you are both gonna have this baby? And he'll have to do it once the little one's here...:p

Seem to remember that smoking reduces male fertility too so maybe he wants to reconsider his "not ready to quit yet"...

Really hope you can do this together - but we'll be here for you to shout at, at any time, either way...:D

Hello :D great news about the quit and trying for a baby, best of luck with both!!! Its not easy but its worth it (the quit and the baby! ;) ) Quitting is the absolute best thing you can do at this stage as i'm sure you are well aware!!! just point out to your other half that him smoking whilst trying is making it harder to conceive and also whilst you are pregnant increases the risk of cot death, glue ear and bronchitis in your newborn... i'm sure he will be shamed into creeping outside anytime he gets the urge!!!! particularly once he sees how well you do and how strong you can be! i quit when i found out i was pregnant (it was a bit of a surprise) believe it or not smoking and morning sickness didn't mix so was pretty easy!!!!!!!!! :D hope the NRT works out for you, everyone is different and it really helps some people, follow the links already posted and read up....it really is the best preparation for quitting, getting your head in the right place is really important!!! so i'll stop wafling now, best of luck and keep posting!!!! xxxx

My partner gave up 3 years ago when she fell pregnant (stupid phrase.. "fell pregnant"!) and I was so very proud. I couldn't give up at that time, but didn't smoke indoors or in the car between then and my quit date. The absolute least I could do.

It does affect male fertility, luckily I am a super stud.

I have noticed the difference in my, errrrm... circulation since quitting though :D

But good luck with pregnancy and not smoking - they really do not mix.

I know how he feels been there myself, pass on my best wishes.

I wouldn't attempt a quit now if were him, either, it would be setting himself up to fail.
