First International Trip after Kidney Transplant

Heyactually I'm planning to travel to Dubai, my first trip outside India, but I'm uncertain about the food options. I'm worried about eating outside and wondering if I'll find suitable food. This concern is making me reconsider my travel plans.

Pls guide what to do...

Well i had an expreince just like you but i were on my dilasys so maybe i can help dont drink water from outsource dont eat any package food including chips and snacks make your diet based on fruits and less oily food more like simple sober foods avoid high spices and oily food and one more imp thing it sounds weird but avoid food from big resturent try to eat on street vendors or small resturent cause they make fresh foods big resturent have big fridges so they store their food for days and serve you old food its not good for kidney and drink more water as much as u can

Hi.... I would say otherwise. Buying food from street vendors and small places is not always good, as sometimes they do not have running water to wash their food and plates properly, or they do not always toss the old food out for financial reasons. I found this out in Bali one time and was hospitalized for being real sick. Look to see how they clean their dishes. I refrain from eating any meat and it sure helps avoid illness. YOu have no way of knowing how fresh the food is or clean their prep areas are.. unless you see for yourself, or get a referral from someone you know who can give you references on good clean restaurants. Always eat cooked food, and wash fresh veggies & fruits with a good bacteria cleaner (even with skins on them) prior to eating them, Research some blogs to find reputable restaurants that cater well to tourists and have good reviews by tourists. All the best. You can do it. Bring nuts, dried fruit and healthy snacks for in between meals.

I agree with Tashikat. In fact, if you are in an unfamiliar country, it is safest to eat pre-packaged commercial foods because they undergo procedures to kill bacteria that can cause serious infection. Never eat raw foods especially during your travel. Buy whole fruits and cut them yourself because you can't trust the seller to have properly sanitized their instruments.

hello i took my first trip after my transplant and 1 pregnancy after transplant to south east asia in 2022 i was very nervous too .. thinking about my meds and food etc … and nice i went for 3 weeks i was just very careful about where and what i eat just found clean places to eat and i took extra meds with me and 2 different medical bags so it doesn’t spoil etc … once i’d been abroad and then did it again 2 months later for 12 days and then. 6 months later to africa… my advice again would be just be carful what and where u eat and be sure to drink from safe sources i.e reputable water companies and just use ur common sense really … enjoy life while being sensible … gosh i wish i had done it sooner and not being that scared or nervous to travel … u will be fine in dubai just have travel insurance to cover u just in case u need it and just enjoy it !!!!!! life is tooo short !!!!

Enjoy your trip and stop worrying! I am in Canada now, I live in US and will be making a trip to Amsterdam in December. This is not my first trip to Europe from US since my transplant.

Traveling to any country is always a challenge as far as food that you like. I have always found appropriate food. Since the pandemic, I think eating outside is better that eating inside. My doctor has advised to wash my hands often. He believes that is best way to stay healthy while traveling.

When going to Europe, it's an overnight flight, so I take my night meds on the plane and morning meds when I arrive.

You didn't have a transplant to stay at home! You need to live LIFE and have fun! I am almost 25 years post-transplant and have traveled all over.

Have FUN!!!

I have traveled more than 8 times after transplant, first one was 4 months after transplant,do not worry a lot about food at the end choose food with less vegetables from restaurants, choose meat over chicken,Be worry about your medicines, keep more keep part with you in the back pack and another in the luggage.

Enjoy, feel good, eat what you love.

If i were you i will be more worries about food in India.
