I This is my first Post on this site. I just celebrated my first year with my transplanted kidney. It was tough as the hospital was 200 miles away from home and they required me to be there every week. There were some complications, and I ended up in the hospital for extended periods. But I am grateful and humbled by the fact that I was selected for a deceased donor transplant. Even with the long recovery time and the medications and the complications and frequent visits to doctors and labs, I am grateful for the generosity of the anonymous donor and the care I received. I know that transplant is a treatment, not a cure. There are issues that I deal with daily and medication concerns, and sometimes I whine about it, but all in all, it's better that dialysis. Thank you for letting me share this.
One year on...: I This is my first Post on... - Kidney Transplant
One year on...
My hubby relates! He received his deceased donor kidney 3 years ago, age 71. He had numerous complications, was hospitalized often, but he's doing well today. Our transplant center was a two hour drive away, yours was probably a three hour drive away so we relate with that too. Sending you heartfelt wishes that you may you see many trouble-free years ahead!
congratulations! I’m one year and four months out from transplant, and I can completely relate!
I celebrated my fourth year anniversary on this week and am very grateful. My transplant center was five hours from my home; however, I was able to stay in the vicinity of the transplant center for 30 days due to doctor visits, lab work and recovery. Know that your body takes time to adjust to the medications. Best wishes going forward.
Congrats on making it to your One Year Anniversary!! The worst should be behind you. In October it will be my 25th Kidney Anniversary. My donor, Ryan, was a 16 year old that had a horrific car accident. His parents donated all of his organs.
I say, now I am on cruise control. I have labs done quarterly and have several trips planned in the next few months.
Take care of your GIFT, and best of luck to you!
Congrats on the kidney transplant and don’t be afraid to go celebrate life! My transplant nephrologist told me that I didn’t go through all of this to sit around…..he told me to enjoy life and I am!! Wishing you all the very best going forward!
Happy for you to feel this gratitude. My hope for you is the journey in life ahead has many less complications so you can enjoy your life doing what you wish to do. Take care.
Happy 1-year anniversary! Blessings for many more years to come. Take care.
Congrats! I’m 20 months post transplant. I had a pretty rough go with CMV. I was CMV- but my donor kidney as CMV+ so I was high risk for CMV… They diagnosed me with T-LGL leukemia in early Dec 2023. That has added an extra layer of issues slowing my recovery and affecting how I feel on a daily basis. However, I remain very thankful to have received Cindy, my deceased donor kidney. I was fortunate enough to receive this gift before I was placed on dialysis.

I have made it just 8 days, and I'm going to be here, looking to you folks for advice and encouragement. Knowing I can make it to one year, much less 15-20....it makes all the difference. I met a man who had kept his first transplant for 34 years!! He was in for a new transplant after failure for a year. 34 YEARS!!
