Cross listing transplant centers

Hello:

I understand some kidney transplant centers will not keep you on their active list if you list with other centers. Some are okay with it. We are hesitant to ask before being approved for listing. Does anyone know if the following transplant centers allow patients to "cross-list", or not?

University of Washington

University of Utah

University of Colorado

Oregon Health Science

Mayo Arizona

Thank you!

It’s called multi-listing. I was listed at Mayo and UCLA both. There is no reason you can’t give them a call and ask if they allow multi-listing! It’s not illegal or anything. It’s a simple question that whoever answers the phone at the center should tell you.

Some centers may accept tests from other centers, some won’t. Mayo insists on doing their own. They’re amazing I only waited 11 months 3 weeks on dialysis.

Thank you ShyeLoverDoctor. We will just start calling. Mayo Arizona would be our first choice, but it's pretty far and no direct flights.

They called me at 7:30 am and told me if you want this kidney you have to get here by 3 pm. The kidney arrived by plane (or helicopter I don’t know) at 5 PM and they started my operation at 5:30 PM. Where I live there’s a flight to Phoenix almost every hour. If it’s going to take you longer than 6 hours to get there, you need to ask them if it’s realistic to be listed there!

Interesting. Yes, that's why she is looking first at the only 3 cities we have direct flights to. I have heard of folks getting Life or Angel Flights to a kidney, but not something to count on.

you can get on the transplant list at a place far from where you live, but once you get close to the top of their list you will have go live near there and it may take several months. My doctor told me that. The transplant centers will know where you live and will call you or not call accordingly when a kidney comes up. If you’re not willing to move I’m not sure why you would get listed at a place far away but I’m sure they will advise you.

Hi. I know my transplant hospital Oregon Health Sciences is ok with multi listing. During my annual pre transplant review last month they actually mentioned it to me(the option to list at multiple transplant hospitals.). Just an FYI I have been on the transplant list for over three years at OHSU.
