Again, I'm 7 months post kidney transplant. My GFR is all over the place. Just. checked today and it is the lowest it has been since 2 months ago. During this first year of transplant, is that normal.

Has anyone else experienced this? If you have, what did you do to raise it. I try to eat healthy, workout 5 out of 7 days a week and drink between 90-100 oz. of water a day.

It's quite normal for GFR to bounce around a bit, particularly over the first year. Eventually it stabilizes when one's immunosuppressants are finally brought to the ideal maintenance level for you. My hubby's GFR is generally around 50 or so, but it's not unusual to see it a little lower. His creatinine is around 1.7. Others often have "better" numbers than that, but our transplant center is happy with this situation. Hubby received his transplant two years ago at age 71 and it came with "issues". I suspect the quality of the kidney, the closeness of the match, the age of both you and the donor kidney, the amount of immunosuppressants, excessive exercise, and more can influence the numbers. But please note that this is simply my view. If you're concerned, please don't hesitate to contact your transplant team and ask for an explanation. I'm sure they'll be happy to let you know what they think.

my center told me, as long as it doesn’t go above 1.5, don’t worry.I’m a bit past 5 months. Creatinine 0.8. GFR I think is 78. I had a “younger donor”. I’m 54. Cadaver obviously. We were an incompatible blood type. I’m blood type B, he or she was blood type A. Mismatch on BK, EBV, CMV. They had all those, I never did. First transplant , no transfusions no pregnancies so I had zero antibodies. Otherwise it wouldn’t have happened they also have Covid when they died but supposedly incidental to death. I’ve never had it. I think we all watch our labs very very closely!! My transplant had higher risk especially. I get where you’re coming from. Might want to eat moderate potassium if you are on cyclosporine . Not sure about tacrolimus .
