question about brain aneurysm and transplant

When I was in my he hospital they found a 3mm maybe a little bigger aneurysm on left side of brain. I have had one aneurysm clip back in 1998 and 1999 I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

I had a grandma seizure and super low blood pressure they took me off all blood pressure meds I was on. The neurologist think this seizure was a one time thing.

I got a letter from the transplant team said I need to be clear about the seizure from the neurologist. They didn’t mention anything about the aneurysm .

My question is does a brain aneurysm has to be fix before you can get a kidney transplant. For me to get back active does it need to be fix . I go to neurosurgeon next week to see my options.

Yes, absolutely. Think of it this way. The transplant team is game to make every transplant successful. If you got a transplant first, you might be a greater risk on the operating table and something could happen to you before yourself built up enough for that particular surgery. I lost a cousin last summer who had 2 aneurysms in need of repair before he could get his live donor transplant. His aneurysms were very complicated and his general health was apparently not great. This happened while I was in the same hospital after having just received my new kidney. I do not wish to frighten you, but rather highlight tbe importance of addressing this soon and recognizing that a certain level of resiliency is needed for both surgeries. I wish you all the best!☺

Mmmm not so in my case I had transplant with aneurysm , is your aneurysm linked to polycystic kidneys ? No changes in my aneurysm found 20years ago and my transplant went ahead 3 years ago with an amazing outcome so don't believe everything you read on the internet , bless us , we all go searching for answers

Hello Taconeo. I was assessed for an aneurysm, but did not have one. My cousin had 2. PKD is rampant in my paternal family and the cause of our CKD/ESRD. It is pretty much standard protocol to rule in/out the presence of an aneurysm in my region where I live. My information comes from personal experience with the transplant team as well as the gaggle of relatives who are or have gone through the same thing, especially my father who had an aneurysm which had to be dealt with 3 decades before he went into kidney failure. I am glad to know that things have worked out for you! I wish you continued good health!☺

I expect your transplant team will want a report from your neurosurgeon that you have no more aneurysms and any that you have a stable and clipped/coiled before you are active again.

I am currently in inactive status for the same reason, I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage last month and I’m hoping that my follow up angiogram has no surprises so I can get back to matching in the fall. I’m “lucky” that something else held up matching right after my living donor donated through the kidney registry, I can’t imagine having the SAH at the same time as the transplant, that would have been bad timing!
