I read that the large nephrology group here in San Diego is now parterning with Evergreen. Don't know what that means - blurb just talks about transforming great care- but appears it may somehow related to Fresenius, the large dialysis corporation. It does not appear that my transplant center is involved.

Hey, I found out my nephrologist was a part owner in the dialysis center next to their office. Boy, there is a huge markup on dialysis meds. It kind of bothered me. It wasn’t Fresenius, but I read to stay away from Fresenius. I was just getting ready for PD when I got my new kidney. Thank goodness.

Totally agree that dialysis centers over charge patients. If Medicare did not set payment restrictions the owners would make millions more than they are making now. As far as medication goes on pd, I found that patent resurrections keep generics from being competitive. During my time on pd, there was a generic medicine that I took regularly that was bought out by French company that produced the non generic medication to prevent the generic medicine being available. I did my research and notified the drug administration and my local congressman and senator. There is a reason that pharmaceuticals fought so hard and made such large political donations to keep medicare from negotiating drug prices. In fact many dialysis patients travel to Canada to save drug costs. Ìn the long run, transplantation is cheaper than dialysis which is ironic since it is more difficult to obtain. And lastly I feel sorry for those who lose medicare benefits after 3 years after a transplant. There is no way that I could pay for the doctor appointments and medication without medicare. If one were to lose their employment and medical insurance, that would be a medical disaster. As Americans we live in a rich nation with a lot of people just one small step from bankruptcy due to medical bills. The main reason reason for bankruptcy.

I’m on Medicare. So far I pay -0- for my meds. I surely wouldn’t be able to afford them on my own.

Thank you for sharing. I hope no politician makes changes to the program. For transplant patients it is a lifeline economically and literally.
