The battery of tests for the donor serve two purposes. First, they want to be as sure as possible that the donor will thrive on only one kidney. The goal is to have two healthy people after the transplant. Second, they want to know all about the potential kidney for the recipient and how the transplant would work out.

As DexterLab said, they have to make sure your donor's health would not be compromised by giving you a kidney. A lot of labs check donor's health - kidney, heart. When I was waiting for my transplant, I had 2 living donors ruled out due to heart issues and high BP. Some of the same tests they do to list someone on the transplant list, they also do for a prospective living donor.
