First I would love to thank all of you who share your experiences (good and bad). I have never posted but when my fiancé told me about this site I read every day. Some of your post gave me hope and some of your post made me cry but I received strength from all of you. I had Iga nephropathy and was going through a tough time. I was trying to escape the life of dialysis because it was a life I did not and could not live. Yesterday at 3pm at Georgetown hospital my fiancé gave me gather greatest give possible, a second chance. This is post op day 1 and I feel amazing. I walked with Pt/OT and wasn’t short of breath, didn’t feel like my chest was gonna explode. I couldn’t do much around the house and working was a nightmare but I went on without to much complaining. I was nervous but I would have been more nervous with your post and incite and for that I am truly thankful. You all that share your experiences also save lives so THANK YOU from the bottom of my new kidney

I feel normal again. It’s great! It is going to take you about a year to really feel normal again. It’s a slow process. It took a long time to build up all those toxins and quite sometime to get them out. So hang on and do what they tell you. If you want to message me, feel free.

I have IgA too and just had transplant 1.5 weeks ago. Going smoothly, but have lots of anxiety in adjusting. I agree that it is amazing to have some energy again! I am tired because of healing and adjusting to meds, but so much energy from having a working kidney. I appreciate any insights and reality about how long healing takes. I am off work for three months.

You feel good now because you are pumped full of prednisone. It will wear off in three months and you are going to ask, “ what happened?”I don’t know about you, but I was given 500mg of prednisone during the surgery and 250mg the next day. That will make anyone feel great!

It can take a year to get all the toxins out of your system. Each day will be a little better.

Good luck!

I’m 10 days post transplant and yea I don’t feel as great as that first day but I feel way better than I did pre transplant. For me now it’s just deconditioning and some discomfort at the site. Plus I think because the swelling I can feel my kidney.

You can feel the kidney with your hand or you just feel it in your body?

With my hand. I told dr she said it’s because of swelling.

A couple of months ago my doctor, as part of an exam, felt for my new kidney. He found it. I asked “you can feel it?” He said “ yes, can’t you?” I said I never tried. I still can’t.

I felt it from day 2 on. If you lay flat it is easier.

Congratulations! The people at Georgetown are the best. Got my transplant there 3 and a half years ago. I started getting better right away and am still going great. Hope the same for you. Fiancee sounds like a keeper.
