My wife had a transplant 1 year ago. The TP team knew that the donated kidney had EBV (age 79). Most people carry EBV early on in life. My wife tested negative for EBV so the team gave an extra antiviral for 6 months. My wife developed a mouth lump near the tongue 3 months ago which was so painful she needed to be on morphine. This was fully investigated by a very competent consultant who like every one else thought it must be cancer but did a full lab test after a biopsy. It turned out to be an ulcer caused by EBV. The lump has now magically completely disappeared. I gather this can happen after a biopsy when the body finally discovers the virus. So never assume a lump is cancer and be aware of EBV.

Thanks for the info. After a transplant new medical problems can appear that require updated info. This forum gives us that important info. Thanks again and take care. Note - a second medical opinion can be important and necessary. Others should take note of that from your story.
