I’ve seen so much about weight gain after transplant and maybe I should be more positive about the transplant than worrying about weight but it’s a constant worry for me. Can anyone else share their experience about weight again after transplant or how to minimise it?
I’m also on prednisone which I know from previous experience caused me to gain weight. I’m at my lowest weight now of 69kg and I’m happy with that weight.

When they told me the average transplant patient gains 30 pounds the first year, I was shocked. My experience has been that by making healthy food choices, I have been able to maintain my pre-transplant weight since my transplant 9 months ago.
Hi! Had my transplant last June and initially needed copious amounts of prednisone but by end of summer I was down to my a "normal" dose of 5mg. A couple of months later, starting in late fall I put on about 10 pds pretty quickly. I didn't notice I was eating more but the doc said "you are feeling better, so your appetite has likely increased". I guess that's the answer plus the fact that I'm a post-menopausal woman and weight is coming on easier and leaving a lot harder than it once did. I'm trying to be mindful about how and what and when I eat & exercising more but it is a struggle for me for sure.
