CMV AGAIN 😐

While looking at my labs I noticed that I have CMV again!! I called my transplant team and my nephrologist stated that the levels are so low that she doesn’t want to treat it right now however she wants me to have my labs drawn this week to see where the levels are. My issue is I’ve had it once before and I had to have a pick line put in my chest and give myself antibiotics for 21 days. I do not want to go through that again, so my issue is why not just put me on the medicine now, meaning the pills so that we don’t risk my value going up any higher. Is it me or does that make more sense? If anyone has any input please share!

Hi, My doctors suggested I took Valcyte and later Letermovir preemptively to prevent cmv. But both had some complicated side effects. So the Infectious diseases doc said to stop all preemptive meds and treat only if cmv is detected and is over 96 units.

Which I’ve just about avoided.

So ya, it’s joule be possible to get preemptive doses. Not sure if you have an issue that is preventing the docs from making that recommendation.

Thanks for the feedback I have a an appointment with my nephrologist on Friday and I am definitely going to bring it up to her. I’ve been on a Val site before but not the other medication. Stay healthy!!

O have had it several times and my transplant doctor don't do anything about it. I just test once a month.

Thanks for your reply I have had it several times as well and my doctor also said the same thing that he will include it in my labs and have me tested for it every month. My question is also to The doctor is there a medication that I could stay on he said that continuous medication would be harmful for the kidney. I definitely try to stay up on my labs and if I notice anything off I definitely call my transplant team. Stay healthy! Blessings 🙏
