COVID RELATED DISABILITY

USA/Federal - Anything in the works regarding people stuck at home due to our inability to go out and work because of covid? My nephrology group told me not to leave my house unless I was going to a doctor's appointment until this covid is over. It may be a long time to wait.

Wow! Where do you live? I had my transplant in April and went back to work after 12 weeks. I work in a hospital. They just told me to be careful. I keep my mask on at all times. I eat in a room by myself ect. Sorry your team is different than mine.

I live in NC and was told by my nephrologist not to go out unless it is to a doctor appointment. In fact, when I go in the office I have to bring my urine sample from home. I give blood, hand over my urine sample and leave. The appointment with the nephrologist is by phone. The nephrologist group owns all the offices in the county. I wasn't given a choice. According to the cdc, I should have been in group 1 for my covid vaccine. Thanks to our governor, Roy Cooper, he put people like me in group 4. I would like to hear from other people in similar circumstances.

WOW! Even after 38 years, your transplant team is telling you that? My nephrologist just suggested that early on I plan my trips out of the house. He also suggested I use K95 masks when I do go out. What are they telling you since you have been vaccinated? I know we should continue to wear a mask even after the vaccine

I am waiting for the 2nd vaccine and should be good in about 3 weeks. The nephrologist is sticking to her guns regarding staying at home. It has been since last year that I have gone out. However, I have been offered two jobs after my second vaccine. I am done staying inside. I plan on taking one of the jobs offered because I can't stand being at home all the time.

Good luck to you. It's crazy how different each clinic is. I'm in Tampa, FL Did do 1 telehealth visit but I told them I prefer in person especially since I work at the hospital across the street from the office. I work nights and go in the morning. I was lucky to be in the first group because I'm a nurse working at a hospital. But Transplant patients were in 1b here. Good luck with your second shot and hopefully your new job! Just be extra careful. We still need to live. 🥰

Your team is right to tell you this but the decision is yours. I didn't get shocked like others because people with really low immune systems die because of covid. I think they feel healthy which is a false notion. Doctors are aware of how immunosuppressants work and make us fragile. Mortality is high for older people because as we age the immune system weakens also mortality is higher in people with chronic conditions such as cancer patients etc. So everything is related to the immune system which we haven't.
