Heamoglobin level: Has anyone had problems... - Kidney Transplant
Heamoglobin level
Yes. I was told by a nephrologist my hemoglobin was high because of dehydration and stopped my diuretic. Seems to have worked.
That’s interesting to hear, I have been advised that I need venesection as mine has gone up so much , when I had this problem previously I was put on a low dose Ramipril which helped but now my BP is too low to go down that route, thanks for replying.
Hello Dogan, A month and half back I was having a high RBC/Hemoglobin/Hematocrit... all 3 of them were way over the max range, Coincidentally I was having my first year Video follow up with my transplant center (out of State) right a way I got phlebotomy done, yes the numbers improved across the board by 10% or more and Now I am within the range. However upon the next round of testing..the number have gone up by 1.5% where by my hematocrit is 50.4 and other two parameter are in the range. Having said all this I am getting my EPO tested and if the EPO exceeds the limit then there is a good possibility the native kidneys even though not involved in the urine excretion process can generate EPO which can cause the bone marrow to produce RBC. Also I have been asked to Ultrasound my native kidneys as I had one cyst before and see if it is secreting and which may cause to produce EPO . There are other popular options such as taking ACEI an ARBs ( I am reluctant as they can cause a drop of 20% in kidney GFR) & some times they can camouflage a rejection episode - let's see what the tests reveal. .if they deteriorate .. I will probably opt for Nephrectomy... .will keep you posted.. Regards
