I am a registered nurse working in the dialyis unit here in Windhoek. I need more information related to kidney transplant and life after kidney transplant to share with my patients and their family. Last year I lost 2 patients witin a period of 3months after transplant and the other one within 6 -8 months of transplant. They were both diabetic inzulin dependend.

I had my kidney transplant on October 15th 1999 from a 16 year old deceased donor. My transplant was done at the U of WI, Madison, WI. I have never experienced a rejection episode, but did have problems with infection that first year. I have FSGS, I am not diabetic and have to other medical issues. My FSGS goes back to growing up and having strep infection that resulted in nephritis.

Hi, my sister is 7 months post transplant but is struggling with severe MRSA and staff infections to the point she has been back in hospital every 6 or 8 weeks. She now has a pic line in her chest and gets administered antibiotics daily with a wound vac over the large hole the MRSA ate onto her body. Any suggestions how to get thru this? What she can do on her own to help? The kidney is miraculously hanging in but numbers are not great so we are worried.
My hubby had his transplant over 5 months ago, one low grade rejection reversed with steroids in hospital and he has been diabetic 7 yrs before transplant. Now he is taking two different types of insulin. AT each meal he does and a long acting medication Levemere before bedtime. HE hopes as meds are removed in the months ahead he will be able to work with an endocrinologist to go back to his oral meds and only take the Levemere. Being on almost 19 medications now , some 2X a day since transplant has caused his blood sugars to go too high and too low no matter what he eats. I hope this helps.
