Hello fellow kidney friends ,
My hair was fine for about the first year but my legs wouldn’t grow hair. Then the hair on my head starting falling out and my leg hair started growing.

Mary, it could be of any number of things. I found that I was greatly affected by the anesthesia which showed itself in my hair and nails for several years after the surgery. Additionally, several of the medications are also known to affect both hair loss and regrowth. As I became ill I lost the majority of my hair on my head, my eyelashes, etc. They're after the surgery, the anesthesia and the prograf are the culprits with respect to hair loss. While my hair loss has slowed it has never really recovered, and my doctors tell me that it will not. I have seen some folks in this forum talk about how zinc helped their hair, perhaps speak with your doctors about adding this to your regimen? Good luck to you.
It didn’t start until a year after transplant 🥵
I take Prograf, Cellcept, Prednisone.
I’m thinking it may be my diet
Hi Mary, I’m sorry to hear about your hair problem. I know it can be challenging for a woman to lose hair. I had this problem during my first year after transplant and then it stopped on it’s own. Do ask your doctor if you can take certain supplements but don’t worry it shouldn’t be forever! As I said for me it went away on its own.
Best of luck.
Yes, hair loss was an issue for me after transplant and it never came back. It is very thin on the top and i do wear a wig and have for a long time now. I have found that rogaine does seem to help the progression. But not to grow it back. You may try this.
I had hair loss the first year after my transplant. Then, it came back thicker than ever. Make sure you let your transplant team know about this side effect. Sometimes they can reduce dose, etc and can make a difference. I take cyclosporine (Neoral) & cellcept.
Hair loss is caused by the Prograf/ Tacrolimus. I am post transplant 3 years on the 1st April. My eyelashes has thinned out, no eyebrows, hair on my legs completely gone, my hair thinned out on top. However with the adjustment of Tacrolimus, my hair has thickened, and with the help of Biotin and collagen shampoo and conditioner, my hair has improved. I'm very happy with the results.
I am so happy to read this post I am in the freak out stage with my hair loss currently. I am on the Prograf and my hair is already thin and fine....I'm trying to keep it together and doing all the things people have posted to try. I also have severe itching and stinging on my scalp
It will come right. If you can also avoid conditioning your hair often, this will enable your hair to stay thick after your hair has been washed. Look at natural ways to stop the itching. I read That there are many natural oils that you can use too stop your itchy scalp. You should give it a try.
Which company shampoo you use?? as o am suffering from same and lost alot of hair
In time, your hair will grow back. I'm using biotin and collagen shampoo from our local Woolworths/Coles supermarket. I'm 4 years post transplant, and my hair has fully grown back. I also do head massages with a blend of coconut, castor and Amla oil twice a month to stimulate thickening of hair growth. This you can get in your Indian grocery store or online shopping. I hope you will find this information useful .❤️
yea thankyou I also mix some oils for this and started using L'oreal biotin one.. i searched for ogx shampoo but didn't got in from any wholesalers. thought of buying it from Amazon but reviews are that they are fake one .. so give up on that and go for loreal which is recommended by a hair stylist.
Thank you for your prompt response. It’s so depressing for us!!
I too have thinning hair. I am taking biotin for my hair, keranique shampoo and conditioner. Loreal makes a spray with color that can fill in those thin spots.
Its prograh for the hair loss
Mines was coming out in chunks so it was prograh n now take rapamune
Biotin vitamins and biotin shapmpoo
My Dr. said to take a Prenatal Vitamin. Hair’s been (mostly) great ever since. (I also use biotin & collagen shampoo & occasionally the conditioner.) My dr said a Prenatal vitamin used to be standard of care at Mayo for all patients - make or female!
I only wish I had been told earlier
Mary my hair is now really fine and falls out horrendously. I have tried so many products including hair and nail vitamins and biotin. I am nearly 3 years post transplant and I see no light at the end of the tunnel. If you find something that works could you please let me know x
What is the solution to growth my hair
The best remedy for hair loss would be a hair transplant. This surgical procedure involves hair transplanting from one part of the scalp to another.
Just saw my dermatologist for this exact problem; Hair Loss. The best remedy is Rogain, only thing that works. She said it is over the counter. I bought the OTC Rogaine Mousse90 day supply for about 50.00. So less than 20.00 a month. I have had tremendous results. Its been 3 months so far and i will definitely keep it up. Good luck to you!
The best remedy for hair loss would be a hair transplant. This surgical procedure involves hair transplanting from one part of the scalp to another. The procedure can be performed as a standalone or in conjunction with other procedures such as face-lifts, brow-lifts, or eyelid surgery. Hair transplants are often done on people suffering from male pattern baldness, alopecia, burns, scars, and other conditions that cause hair loss. I've found out from novahairtransplantnyc.com/f... that the first step in a hair transplant is determining which kind of transplant best meets the patient's needs. The two main methods of grafting are follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplant (FUT).
