19 YEARS AND COUNTING

19 years ago, I got THE CALL that the transplant center had a kidney for me. The coordinator that called stressed that it was a "kidney" for me. I was told that it was a 4/6 match and came from a deceased 16 year old that had been involved in a car accident. And what a GIFT I was given!! No rejection episodes.....a few "bumps" in the road, but continue to do great. My creatinine is a steady 0.9 - 1.1. Tomorrow, October 15th is my actual anniversary. Remember to be as positive as you can be, have the right attitude and pray.

I did have a couple of issues with infection after my transplant...but was only that first year. I did get the flu about 6 weeks after my transplant and wound up in the hospital for a couple of days. So, for the last 18 years I have been healthy, and I thank God everyday! My kidney was a true GIFT!!
