Can multiple listing shorten my waiting time for a transplant?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe so. I think it just depends on where you are listed. For example, I am based in Southern California. I had the option of being waitlisted in 2 counties. I am currently residing in the San Bernardino / LA area however I listed in San Diego county as it has a shorter wait time for getting a transplant. I was told San Bernardino / LA county wait in any transplant center in the area takes 6-10 years (from a cadaver) and 4-6 years in San Diego county. But if I listed in both San Bernardino / LA county & San Diego county I could have had a better chance to get a transplant here in San Bernardino / LA county than San Diego. I think it just depends on when and where the transplant goes when ready to donate.
Also, I was told there is an additional fee to be waitlisted in another transplant center. They told me $300, but I think it might be more or less depending on your transplant area.
Hi, I was listed in Boston and was told it could take 7-8 years for a kidney. My nephrologist suggested I list at UVMC in Burlington, VT. I did and received a kidney in 3 years and 9 months. You need to make sure your insurance company will let you multi-list but I did not pay a fee to multi-list. Good luck!
It is worth your time to check around as even going to another state can greatly shorten your wait time
