Find out what hospitals in your area does transplants and they will get you in touch with the kidney coordinator. Otherwise the kidney foundation as well. All blood work procedure ect is at no cost to you. What blood type are you. I'm looking for O type.Tracy

There will be a long process of tests, interviews, etc., but you will feel you are in the best health of your entire life! Definitely find the nearest hospital that does kidney transplants and speak to their department. That will start the ball rolling. Because of COVID, you might have to wait longer than usual, but stay patient! This is an amazing gift!

You are an angel to even consider being a donor. At the clinic where I was transplanted, my donor had a coordinator and social worker that not only explained the entire process of living donation but made sure he was ready physically, mentally, and emotionally for this major surgery. As a kidney recipient, I felt reassured knowing my donor had his own team watching out for his best interest.

All the people I know who ultimately donated said it was one of the best things they'd ever done in their lives. I also know people who began the process and withdrew somewhere along the way. In my book they are still heroes because they stepped up in the first place. It is a profound act, and I'm grateful for anyone who takes the initiative to learn about kidney donation for themselves.

The National Kidney Foundation has a lot of good information for you. Visit kidney.org/transplantation.

Best to you on your journey!

I donated a kidney to my husband. As mentioned there were blood tests and scans. Some of my tests were able to be done locally and some were at the kidney transplant center. At the end of all the testing, part of the screening was meeting with the transplant psychiatrist, so there was opportunity to discuss any issues and concerns that were on my mind. The day of the transplant I knew I was ready physically and mentally to give my husband my kidney.
