constipation
I have diverticulosis, and several years ago developed diverticulitis, which resulted in near death and an emergency colostomy and months later, are reversal of the colostomy. As a result of that, I have a lot of internal scarring, and, according to my surgeon, abdominal adhesions which are bands of scar tissue that form between abdominal organs, mainly the small intestine. These adhesions occur after abdominal surgery and can cause tissues to stick together, when normally they would just move around freely.
After a few visits to the E.R. because of constipation which resulted from the adhesions sticking together, the surgeon advised drinking prune juice daily. Yes, I know that prune juice is high in potassium, but since drinking it every night, I have had only one visit to the E.R. and that was due to a stomach problem, not the usual constipation.
Hello,To help me fight off constipation I take (2) 100 mg CVS Stool Softeners (Saves Money). If things really start to get back up I will some MiraLax (1) cap full with half glass of water. And if that doesn't help get things going, my last resort is to take (2) Tablespoonsful of Lactulose (Presribed by my Nephrologist). Since I am not on a liguid restriction diet, I make sure I drink about 2 - 4 L of water a day.
Good Luck
I tried all that and have found that these help... Meta Mucil Fiber thins. They taste like cinnamon spice.
I had to add Miralax to my regimen. Then I do stool softener pills one night and Miralax the next night. Seems to work for me. BB
