Talk to your doctor. There are safe solutions such as a stool softener, but it will depend on your medical profile. Don't be embarrassed to ask. I had the same issue.

There are many different binders. If one is causing a problem you can have him switch you to something else

Agreed with the below statements. Ask your doctor or dialysis nurse. Mine suggested Miralax & more fiber, but it does depend on your personal medical situation. Hope you can get some relief!

My husband is on peritoneal dialysis and phosphorus is a big issue in his life. He's taken a variety of binders (most were given as samples) to find the best one for him. And he was also told to take Miralax.

My doctor has me on stool softener pills plus Miralax. I use the generic form. I fitst tried Lactulose, but did not like the gas. Check with your doctor to see what works for you.

Thank you all, will try the Miralax.have been taking the stool softeners

I have the exact opposite problem. I have horrible uncontrollable diarrhea. Is there no happy middle. I complain A LOT to my healthcare workers. Most days I can't leave the house. Not taking my horrible nasty binders is wreaking havoc on my labs & starting to effect my body. I take hands full of Imodium, which seems a waste of $$$$ A lot of the time. I wish for constipation at times. I would be satisfied with a nice medium.

A nice medium for both of us.

Having diarrhea is very bad for the kidneys. It will dehydrate you and cause stress. I used to be on a drug that caused such uncontrollable diarrhea and it greatly impacted my life. I got off it and the situation changed. It was a biologic. Believe it or not, taking in more fiber might help so one of the bars might be good for you. I am now using milled flax seed. What a difference for me. But they do add calories and fat but the omega 3's are amazing. I put 1-2 tablespoons in my oatmeal and I also sprinkle some on my salads and other foods.

My Doc has me on probiotics & Greek yogurt. It helps most if the time. Enough to give me relief.

I have the exact opposite problem!!!!!! I have severe diahria! To the point I can't leave the house. Which causes me to not take my binders, which is dangerous for my phosphorus & potassium levels. I DESPISE BINDERS. Most of the time I eat only one 'real' meal a day, our evening meal, then I'm up &

down all night. To me that's better than all day when I'm trying to get something done.
