my mom wants to do PD at home and has had several abdominal surgeries and is going for a four hour test to see if she can have cath put in. She is wondering if worth it if had so many surgeries?

I joined on for my 81 year old mother and have a lot of qts need help!
Only the surgeon can answer that question for sure. It all depends on the amount of scar tissue.
Go for it the testingMom is 89 y o, had been on PD for 12months
Has scars in her abdomen bc of multiple surgeries
So far PD is working for mom
If need be HD is the next step which is more invasive
I am 81 also and have many of the same questions and concerns about dialysis as your mom. The biggest question is whether to do it or not or just let nature take its course given our age. We each have to answer that question for ourselves I think looking at our current quality of life. its not an easy answer. Will be thinking of you and your mom as you make these decisions. For sure I would visit with the surgeon and see what they have to say.
HI Oceanviewed.
I have a lot of people at the dialysis unit I attend, in their 80s. I have spoken to a few of them. Most of them were not going have dialysis. However nearly all of them say it is an inconvenience but they are glad they went ahead with it. Obviously this is a very personal decision. Wishing you all the best.
