Cocktail Please: Bipolar/Spinal Cord Injury Now Dialysis

So I dived in and started posting last week after my visit to the dialysis educator. I didn't get into the fact that I have bipolar disorder and a spinal cord injury. I promise that's all. It's all a long story, but I'm concerned with making sure my medications stay stable. I was told depending on when I do dialysis we would make sure to take the medication after, I believe she said, but I am still a little worried about not feeling stable. I have been very stable for the past 20 years. I just don't mess around when it comes to my medicine and because of things that happened when I was manic I am very diligent about taking medication. I never feel I am better and don't need it. I know I feel better because I use it. All this to say what a medical cocktail I am, but I'm going to do fine with this. I've overcome or managed so much in my life already. I can do this too. I just keep telling myself that in hopes that soon I'll truly believe it. So question is has anyone had to manage other health issues in conjunction with dialysis? I imagine people have, it'd just be nice to hear from some of you.

Thank you for your post. I struggle with PKD and also anxiety and depression. So this path of polycystic kidney disease is really tough with these other issues as well. And I have a deep faith that I am guided to my highest and best good always. This is my year to find a kidney donor. Blessings to you, BB

Aloha. I have PKD as well and started dialysis a few months ago. I completely understand your anxiety. Having a strong faith is essential, I believe, for coping with the uncertainty of PKD/CKD. Feel free to reach out if you think I can be of service.

Thank you for your response and Blessings. I hope that you are able to talk to someone. Even though I have family and friends who love me to talk to I value my therapist as well. I joined this community also and I know it will be beneficial from the responses I’ve gotten so far so keep in touch. .

Hi Queen. Your nephrologists usually work with pharmacists who usually have developed a special knowledge of medicine and renal issues. I suggest you request an appointment with such a specialist to educate and answer your questions. Blessings!☺️

Thanks for the suggestion. I certainly do talk to my doctors. For now I’ve been talking to my psychiatrist. I just wanted others thoughts who might have experienced it. It’s different hearing from others. Thanks

Hi Queen. I just recently had this same conversation with my psych provider. I've struggled with depression for many years. Multiple trial & error's to find the right meds for me. I've found some relief recently with a particular med but it's an extended release. Like you, my psych provider & I are concerned how that's going to work with dialysis. This med is also notorious for nasty & prolonged withdrawal symptoms. My psych provider said that she will discuss it with her colleagues. I'll also talk with my nephrologist when I see him in a few weeks. If you're interested I can let you know what I find out. And if you don't mind, I'd love to know how you make out. Take care!
