Hello I’m a Stage 4 Renal ending stage and I’m scared of the worse case know that I only have my right one, my left one was removed 9/22/2020, and over the years my EGFR has fluctuated up and down now I’m in the low 15’s last time it was checked, I’m currently taking a lot of meds and bp meds are a key factor seeing as if I take multiple, along with having anemia and being on iron meds and seeing a hematologist as well to help with that just need some recommendations if anyone has any, trying to get better over time but as soon as possible.
How do you get the toxins out of your kidne... - Kidney Disease
How do you get the toxins out of your kidney when you only have one with a very low EGFR?

So very sorry to hear you're in Stage 4. I can definitely understand your interest in keeping your only kidney working as well as possible. I'd ask my nephrologist for his recommendations regarding diet and exercise and perhaps ask for a review your medications and conditions as well. If diet changes are recommended, this would be a good time to also ask for a referral to a dietician who can tailor food choices to your needs and keep you focused in that regard - insurance will pay for that in some cases. Above all, if you haven't considered getting on the transplant list, bring that up now. One can start the process when one's eGFR is 20 or below in the US. Some will actually get a pre-emptive transplant and never go on dialysis - they transition from failing kidneys to a new kidney. By the way, don't let anemia and high blood pressure, etc. stop you from exploring this option - many with CKD have those issues. I know your situation is overwhelming at times. Having a plan in hand in helpful in reducing anxiety and gives you a goal and that is very important. Sending you encouragement that you will find a good path forward for yourself.
